Watch DOG Kick Off Event Thursday, Sept. 23rd
Research shows that when the father takes an active role in a child's education, engagement and achievement improve. The Watch DOG program is a volunteer program which does just that. It allows our male role models to take an active role on campus helping students. Please come to our informational meeting on Thursday, September 23rd to find out more about this program.
PTA will provide pizza and drinks starting at 5:45 in the cafeteria for families. A brief PTA meeting will take place at 6:00. Following will be information regarding the Watch D.O.G.S. program and how to get involved. To sign up for a WatchDOG spot, you MUST have your Volunteer Background Check complete and own a WatchDog shirt. AND join PTA while you're at it! Go to www.BlantonPTA.org to complete all of those tasks. For a pizza estimate, please register on our website for this PTA WatchDOG event! Kids can eat, stay, or play outside!
NOTE: The WatchDOG sign-up link will be posted on Friday, Sept. 24. You cannot sign up unless you're volunteer background check is complete. EXPO Referrals (Gifted and Talented Program)
What is EXPO? It is Denton ISD's program for Gifted and Talented Students. Gifted and talented students are those who excel consistently or who show the potential to excel in general intellectual ability, specific subject matter aptitude, and creative and productive thinking. These students require educational experiences beyond those normally provided by the regular school program. Students shall be identified through the use of multiple criteria as specified by the Denton Independent School District.
How are the Gifted Students selected? Teachers, principals, counselors, and parents may nominate/refer students for the EXPO Program. Students must meet specific criteria which include objective and subjective measurements. Final placement for the EXPO program is determined by a district committee.
What type of curriculum is taught? The elementary EXPO curriculum is interdisciplinary and develops and utilizes advanced thinking concepts and processes. Students are given an opportunity to study content in depth and pursue topics of interest with consideration for different learning styles through various types of activities.
Referrals are being accepted now through October 8th for students in 1st-5th Grades. Please use Mrs. Turner's Referral Process Link for more information and referral forms.
