Political Revolution
The Costs and Benefits
The Costs
The British government was enraged by the revolt of the colonists and sent their army to America to put a stop to the rebellion. This led to the deaths of many people on both sides of the war. The British government also denied shipping and funding to the American colonists. This was a big move, especially considering that most of the supplies in America were shipped there from Britain. The British wanted to keep America for themselves.
Declaration of Independence
The signing of the Declaration of Independence took place on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia
British Defeat
The British defeat in Saratoga New York in 1777 nearly led to British surrender.
The Bill of Rights
The Bill of Rights was made official in Philadelphia on December 15, 1791
The Benefits
The British government eventually signed a peace treaty with the American colonies allowing the war to be put to an end. The British government was not greatly impacted through the revolution, but they did lose land. However, America gained an entirely new government after gaining independence. America’s new government was a democracy and this was a great change for the Americans. The revolt against the British didn’t lead to the fall of the British government, it led to a new government for America.
