Alief ISD Spotlights, Communications and Announcements
Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays was spotlighted by KPRC.
Alief ISD middle and high school students received regional honors in the art category of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
The regional contest is organized by the Harris County Department of Education. HCDE received more than 7,700 art submissions and more than 5,200 writing submissions. Scholastic Regional Writing Awards will be announced soon.
Congratulations to the students, including those who received Gold Keys:
- O'Donnell Middle School - Ishmael Abdullah
- Elsik High School - Clara Centino, Crystal Giang (2), Brandon Piedrasanta and Diana Salgado
- Hastings High School - Ken Okolo
- Kerr High School - Nha Nguyen and Tu Khue Phan

Congratulations to Alief ISD's Secondary Science Fair winners!
Students who placed in the district fair and those who advanced based on the quality of the student's STEM scholarship will advance to the 2023 Science and Engineering Fair of Houston on February 11. The following students took the top spots in their respective categories.
Junior Division (Grades 7-8)
- 1st Place - Alice Medina (Olle Middle School)
- 2nd Place - Thu Dinh (Killough Middle School)
- 3rd Place (Tied) - Zody Calderon-Huerta (Alief Middle School) and Allen Giang (Killough Middle School)
Senior Division (Grades 9-12)
- 1st Place - Azeemah Sadiq (Alief Early College High School)
- 2nd Place - Caleb Ajaezbu (Elsik Ninth Grade Center)
- 3rd Place - Madison Osazuwa (Alief Taylor High School)
Alief ISD high school welding students had a successful weekend at the 10th Annual Cy-Ridge FFA Welding Contest.
Elsik High School student Emillio Alas won first place in Level 1, $8,000 in Scholarships, A RTIC cooler full of welding supplies, a beautiful belt buckle and a Certification.
Hastings High School student Waynerd Hercules placed third in Level 3, $2,000 in Scholarships, multiple prizes and a Certification.
In total, Alief ISD CTE Welding students earned 13 Certifications and a total of $25,000 in welding school scholarships.
Two Alief ISD high school student athletes competed in the Aramco Houston Half Marathon.
