5.17 Weekly Update
Good Sunday afternoon!
Hopefully you are staying dry on this rainy Sunday. This week will be another full week of virtual learning. Make sure to keep a check on PowerSchool to make sure your students are participating in their virtual classes. Grades are updated weekly by teachers. There will be no school for students or staff on Monday May 25th in observance of Memorial Day.
Laptops drop-off will be June 1st, 2nd and 3rd from 12:00pm-7:00pm at the Swansboro Middle School Main office. Office hours will also be 12:00pm-7:00pm June 1st-3rd. Families will enter SMS through the bus entrance off of Norris Rd. Vehicles should then pull forward to the main office. Staff members will approach your vehicle, scan your laptop, then take the laptop. Laptop drop-off will be a quick, non-contact process. You should also bring in library books, chargers and any work that may be due when returning your laptop. Families should remain in your vehicle, no one will be allowed to enter the middle school during the process. The following schedule should be followed to keep traffic flowing.

In the coming weeks we will begin to create a plan for recognizing student and athlete achievements for the 19.20 school year. These events will be based on the Governor's and Onslow County Schools recommendations.
Be sure to take our Spring Title 1 Survey so that your voice is heard as we begin the planning process for the 20.21 school year. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=2oj0MM90xkqfNEBYMyDapOCABtVv2HtFnfgXxQRZddlUMlk1RlBVUVNDNlhWTVJTWUkxS1BVMDBaVy4u

SBMS Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ's
*My laptop isn’t working! What should I do?
Technicians will be available for laptop drop-off at Swansboro High School from 10:00-12:00 each day. Repaired laptops will be available for pick-up at the same location from 1:00-4:00 the following day. If your laptop does not need to be repaired, but you are having trouble logging in to one of our learning sites or are experiencing other technical difficulties, you may contact Mrs. Sweeting via email or through the “Virtual Meetings” channel of the student team. She and Ms. Holland will find a solution and get back to you as soon as possible.
*My microphone doesn’t work. What should I do?
Technicians will be available for laptop drop-off at Swansboro High School from 10:00-12:00 each day. Repaired laptops will be available for pick-up at the same location from 1:00-4:00 the following day.
You can still join your teacher's online meetings and participate in the discussions through the chat feature on the side of the screen. The malfunctioning microphone will not keep you from being able to join those classes. If you need to do a recording for Band or another class, you may want to try an external headset with a microphone if you have one. You may also use a recording app on your phone, then upload the audio file to OneDrive so that you can submit it to your teacher.
If you feel that you need to have your microphone fixed in order to be successful with your online learning, you will need to drop it off at the high school.
*Why am I having trouble connecting to IReady or other sites? (and why is there a sad face on my screen instead?)
It is likely to be a Zscaler issue. While most checked Zscaler as part of our tech-ready lesson we did in homerooms last Friday, students who had a substitute teacher or were absent may not have completed the process. If you are getting an error message or a sad face, you probably didn't log in to the Zscaler app at school. Unfortunately, you can only do this while on our network. You may need to come and sign in from the parking lot of an OCS school. Here is a link to the instructions that we used last week.

One of the instructional resources shared in the remote learning toolkit, is NCWiseOwl. Unless you are on our network, it will ask you for a password. Since we can not post this password on public sites, please check Teams or ask your teacher for this password.
