WOODGROVE HIGH SCHOOL
Start of the Year 2021-2022
Welcome to Year 12!
Greetings, Wolverines - welcome to Woodgrove High School! And a very enthusiastic welcome to our newest Wolverines – our ninth-grade class and all new students to our school community. For the first time in nearly a year-and-a-half, we all will be back together at Woodgrove High School!
As we all are excited about the upcoming school year, our circumstances regarding the COVID 19 pandemic continue to influence our environment. This link to the LCPS Return to School Planning includes pertinent information for students, families, and staff members. Please note that beginning this school year, all LCPS students and staff are required to wear face coverings in the school regardless of vaccination status.
We have our Open House scheduled for Tuesday, August 24, beginning at 12:30pm. Students will be able to tour the school, locate their classrooms, and meet their teachers. Information regarding the Open House and specific times for each grade level are included in this newsletter and also located here.
Also, as we do transition back into school, we are aware that this will be a significant change for our students and staff as some have not been in school since March 2020. Therefore, our goal for the first two days of the year is to re-establish and strengthen our school community through our connectedness with each other. Our first two days will be interactive. Through engaging activities, we will spend our time together learning (and relearning) what Woodgrove High School values, and who we are as a team and school community. Students will meet with their classes, teachers, and fellow students. We will make new connections with one another during casual time and in our class meetings. We will explore our campus and see what extracurricular opportunities are available. Students and staff will get to know each other through a variety of activities. Friday will culminate with Woodgrove’s first home football game that evening.
Here is the link to our bell schedules for the year. The first day of school, Thursday, August 26, will be an A Day and here is the link for the complete 2021-2022 A Day / B Day daily calendar.
Back to School Night will be Thursday, August 26, the first day of school, beginning at 6:00pm at the school. Additional details will be sent as Back to School Night nears. Parents will be able to access their daughter’s or son’s schedule through ParentVue.
Along with the schedule, parents and guardians will have access to their daughter’s or son’s grades through ParentVUE. Our grading practices are aligned to the LCPS Assessment and Grading Policy 5030. If you have any questions regarding ParentVUE, please contact our Counseling Department at 540-751-2607.
This year we will continue sending out an online monthly newsletter from the school, which will be accessible on our school website. The purpose of this newsletter is to share information about Woodgrove which will include the activities at the school, upcoming events, and important dates. We also will be highlighting our students’ successes as we move through the year. In addition, organizations supporting the school, such as the Parent, Teacher, Student Organization (PTSO), the Woodgrove Music and Arts Association (WMAA), and the Woodgrove Wolverine Athletic Booster Club (WWABC) may also have information included in this newsletter. If you would like a hard copy of the newsletter mailed to you, please contact Ms. Teri Hoover at 540-751-2600. Below is a direct link to our Parent organizations - the PTSO, WMAA, and WWABC on our website: WHS Parent Organizations. Also, our PTSO publishes a weekly newsletter for all current WHS PTSO members. Parents, teachers, and students may sign up online, on August 24 at our Open House, or on August 26 at our Back to School Night. I encourage you to join these exceptional organizations!
We are very pleased to welcome some outstanding new staff members to our team. We have included a listing of all new staff and their positions in this newsletter.
I certainly hope you find this information useful. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the school at 540-751-2600. You also may visit our website.
Once again, welcome to Woodgrove - together we all will help reestablish and determine what Woodgrove High School is as we move forward together. We are looking forward to an excellent 12th year!
