LEAD Innovation Studio
Vol. 4, Issue 2 - August 28, 2020
NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
LEAD Family Checklist
LEAD students will have a virtual registration this year. The construction that is occurring at our new LEAD building will not allow us to host a drive through registration event like the home high schools.
You will find the registration information housed on the LEAD website Wednesday, September 2nd. All LEAD families will also be emailed a page containing links to all important information and “welcome back” videos.
During our virtual registration you will find links to information on parking, reminders to complete online residency verification (if needed), or how to order awesome LEAD spirit wear. You will also be taken on a virtual tour of the building by LEAD’s Principal Dr. Ryan Stanley!
LEAD student schedules will be live in Infinite Campus Monday, August 31st at 6:00 p.m. To access your student’s schedule click on the schedule lab on the left. If you have more than one student in the district you will need to select the student you want to view from the upper right corner.
Please understand that the scheduling process is very complex and there is no guarantee students will get all of their requested courses at any high school. When completing student schedules, we prioritize courses that are required for graduation. We then do our best to accommodate elective course requests. However, sometimes requested courses may have time conflicts.
LEAD will review schedule change requests for the following reasons:
- The student is missing a course that is required for graduation.
- The student did not have the prerequisite course needed for a course on the current schedule.
- The student already has received credit for a course that is currently on their schedule.
You can access the schedule change form on the LEAD website under the counselor tab. We will review schedule change requests until September 11th.
Bus: Busing is provided for students - there will be a bus to take students to the home high school, and a shuttle to go from the home high school to LEAD at the start of the day and back to the home high school from LEAD at the end of the day.
- Music Shuttles - there are shuttles to transport music students between buildings
- Northland Career Center - there are shuttles for NCC - details will be sent directly to NCC students.
*Details on busing - bus numbers, shuttle bus processes and numbers, and times will be provided next week.
Car Riders: Parents can drop students at LEAD and pick them up there. Students may also be taken to their home high school and picked up and utilize the shuttle. Students will need to be at the home high school by 7:35 to ensure catching the shuttle to LEAD in the mornings.
*Details on drop-off - We will share detailed locations/ times next week - There are areas still being paved and we want to be sure all work is complete before providing directions. For your reference: The building address is 7201 N Line Creek Parkway, KC MO 64151.
Car Drivers: Students may drive - see details below in the parking information section.
- Online students are responsible for their transportation to music classes.
- Music students may drive to LEAD and their home high school. If they plan to drive to the home high school, they will need to purchase a parking pass through their home high school. That pass will be honored at LEAD as well – they do not need to purchase both stickers.
Parking is currently open to senior and junior LEAD students. We may open parking to LEAD sophomores once we see how many parking spots remain after the seniors and juniors reserve their spots. There are a few music students that will purchase their parking stickers from the home high school. This will allow these students to drive their cars to the home high school rather than riding the LEAD music shuttle. The process for purchasing those parking stickers has already been communicated to those music students. LEAD will honor the home high school passes for our music students. You do not have to buy two passes. Also note: If your student is an athlete and their activity is leaving early, they may drive to the home high school and park on their lot. They do not need a parking sticker from the home high school to do this. If for some reason, the LEAD athlete receives a parking ticket, please see Mrs. Eisenmeneger and she will get the parking ticket excused for the LEAD student. LEAD parking stickers cannot be transferred to another LEAD student. If transference occurs, the sticker will be revoked for both parties. In order to purchase a parking sticker to park on the LEAD campus please do the following:Pay for the parking sticker in Infinite Campus. To do this: select Fees → My Account→ Optional Payments → Add to Cart.
- Complete this google form to reserve your spot. Remember you must actually currently have a driver’s license and be a junior or a senior at LEAD. https://forms.gle/Ufp4WL9zrdY9CJSZA
- Submit the Parking form attached to this newsletter to Teresa Graham. Please email the completed from to Grahamt@parkhill.k12.mo.us
- Include a picture of your driver license, insurance, and registration with your above form.
- Mrs. Graham will give students their parking pass when they are at LEAD the first couple of school days.
DRIVING TO OFF-CAMPUS CLASSES/PROGRAMS
To drive to off campus classes, LEAD students must submit the following permission slip. This includes music classes at the home high schools and other programs such as NCC, NCAPS, and MCC-BTC. This school year, LEAD students will not be allowed to transport other students at any time in their cars to any of these off campus classes or programs. Please email the completed form to OffieldA@parkhll.k12.mo.us

By now all freshmen students should have heard from their mentors by now. If your student has not heard from their mentor please call LEAD at 816-359-4130. Freshmen students are welcome to join their mentors in person or via zoom for a freshmen orientation tour/question and answer session on Friday, September 4th. Mentors shared a google form for students to sign up for a time to take the LEAD tour. Only students are allowed in the building and must wear a mask. Please make sure students bring a pen or a pencil. Tours should last no longer than 30 minutes and parents are expected to wait for them if possible.
MEET THE FACILITATOR (teacher) EVENING/FAMILY ONBOARDING
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 15 at 6:30pm.
Family Onboarding: LEAD can look a little different from other buildings, and even for returning families, there have been changes to how we operate and updates to Summit. We will be sharing resources in the coming weeks to help "onboard" and orient our families to partner with us in supporting your students.
FIRST DAYS/WEEK OF SCHOOL
DUAL CREDIT AT LEAD
We have sent emails out to families and students if the course their student is enrolled in is offered as a dual credit option. Dual credit allows students to earn college credit for taking a high school course. If your student is enrolled in one of these courses this semester they have the opportunity to earn college credit, the courses are: AP United States History (in person students), Composition and Reading (in person students), College Algebra (in person students), Aspiring Medical Professionals (in person students), AP Psychology (in person students), Marketing (virtual students) and Spanish 3 (virtual students). There will be different options during the second semester. Remember your enrollment forms for Metropolitan Community College must be returned to LEAD this coming Friday.
Online and In-person students should pick up their laptop devices before school begins – you should have received an email from the district technology department with details. Here is information from that email:
Your student can sign up to pick up their laptop between August 24 and September 4 at either Park Hill High School or Park Hill South High School. The process should take no longer than 10 minutes. No laptops will be issued without a signup at least 48 business hours prior to the appointment.
Step 1: Choose a location to pick up the laptop.
Step 2: Sign up using the link for that location (above). Important things to note:
- You must sign up at least 48 business hours before your pickup day to ensure the student’s laptop is ready.
- For families with multiple students – you must enter a separate sign up for each student to ensure a device is ready for each student.
Step 3: Pick up the laptop on your assigned day and time.
- Students are required to enter the school building alone to help with social distancing. Parents and siblings will not be allowed except for special circumstances.
- Face masks are required.
- Please keep a six-foot distance from others when possible.
- View the attached maps for parking and entrance information.
- The process should take no longer than 10 minutes.
If your student still has their laptop from the spring, internet access has been disabled and it should be returned to your school building as soon as possible. If your student fails to return this device or pick up their new device before school starts, we cannot guarantee they will have a device ready for the first week of school.
If you have any questions about your appointment, please contact the Department of Technology at 816-359-5000 Monday-Friday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Students who purchased yearbooks last year will have those delivered when we return to school. We are working on a plan for getting these to online students.
There has been and continues to be much planning on how to keep our staff and students safe during the pandemic. Outlined below are the procedures and operations that will guide our daily practice, which meet district and health department guidelines.
This year is special and unique in many ways:
Opening a brand new school
Practicing safety guidelines while on campus
Creating routines & procedures that are very important for academic success throughout the building
Hybrid learning model
It is because of these new practices that we plan to focus on Community this year at LEAD. Building community with students is a top priority for our staff! Webster defines community as “a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.” How we demonstrate community to one another will be extremely important to maintain in-person learning. We are committed to keeping all people safe and take this responsibility very seriously. Please be sure to review this information with your child prior to the first day of school so they know what will be expected of them.
It will take our community working together to keep us all safe. We look forward to partnering with you and your student this school year at LEAD! Please call us any time you have questions at 816-359-4130.
We are building new processes for arrival and dismissal, as well as storage for band instruments and athletic gear. We are asking that all LEAD parents complete this information form to help us with our planning. Please click on the hyperlink below!
