Break out activity
Finishing up our unit on the Pilgrims and the Wamanoags, Mrs. Sayre designed break out boxes that were locked and the combinations to them came from all that we learned this week.
Reading
We started our informational unit in reading. We used sticky notes to find nonfiction text features like captions, heading, table of content and a glossary.
Writing
We are also learning how to write nonfictional pieces in writing. We watched a Thanksgiving movie that explained the traditions of the holiday. We took notes and then shared our findings.
Social Studies
Learning the compass is an important skill-especially for me as I always get lost even with gps! The students made a compass watch and walked around the room turning the compass in the direction they were walking. We were careful not to crash into each other.
Writing
Getting a chance to share our first attempt at writing a teaching book is important to make sure other people understand what we are trying to say.
Buddies
We read stories with our buddies this week.
Science
We finished up our unit on seasons by graphing our birthdays according to the season.
Mike Byster Math Presentation
What a wonderful math presentation we had on Thursday! Mike Byster came to our classroom and taught the class some ways to really wow people with sharp math skills! Our class participated and enjoyed learning with Mike. He taught our class a few tricks, one was called "adding fingers." A paper is coming home in Friday folders with some information on how to perform this skill.
Top Dog -Amy
Amy's favorite animal is a kitten and she loves to eat popcorn! She wants to be a singer when she grows up. She is pawsome at singing and dancing!
