Wear gray on Monday for Class Colors Day!
Language Arts
We are wrapping up our seasons/weather unit today and are reviewing sight words my, are, he, with, is, little, she, and was. The students exercised their visualizing skills while reading various stories and we also discussed the importance of correctly sequencing events from stories. The kids are continuing to work on rhyming and are improving - but please work on this at home as well! Their reading and writing is just blowing me away...these kids are all so awesome and come to school ready to work every single day!
March "Book It!" reading logs are being sent home today!!
I will not forget this month!! ;) March is the final month to turn in a reading log to earn a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut.
Math
The Kindergartners have had so much fun with addition this week! We have used a leprechaun's gold coins to help us use ten frames to solve addition problems. We have also started to work on other strategies that we can use during our daily math story problem. Some of these strategies are using ten frames, drawing pictures or tally marks, writing out a number sentence, using our fingers, or mental math. We are wrapping up our addition unit with a fun leprechaun math/art activity and next week we will start working on subtraction!
Social Studies - Timeline Project!
- I would like each student to work together with an adult at home to create a timeline of their life.
- Include a picture, date/year, and short caption showing major events in their lives from birth, age 1, age 2, etc. up until present day (you can add more than just those few photos if you would like!).
- Use a format that works best for you (most use a piece of poster board).
- Encourage them write and sound out words when they can, choose pictures that they would like to include on there, etc.
- Talk about how they have changed and grown over the years.
- Students should have these completed and brought to school by next Friday, March 8th so that they can present them to their classmates.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me! Thank you so much for your cooperation and support!
