A Message from the Principal
Dear Sheridan Families,
We had such celebratory week! It all began with our 2nd Annual Domino Challenge! All students participated in their Shark houses, including our little Sharks! The students demonstrated flexibility in their thinking, revision work (when we didn’t have enough to go ALL the way around the blacktop) and teamwork to get all of the set up accomplished. Thank you to Natalie White, Spencer Lardino, Daniel Andreychuk, and Owen Taubensee for bringing the idea to me last year, and helping to make it happen again!
We also hit our goal of ALL classes reaching 25 Purple Shark Bites for showing their SPARK as a class unit. Way to go, Sharks! So…we got to end our day with a dance party! It was a lot of fun!
And, last but definitely NOT least, a huge thank you to APT and Spirit of 67 for bringing author Aaron Reynolds to D67. The students thoroughly enjoyed this experience!
Notes From Your Librarian:
It has been such a joy watching your kids' excitement checking out books of choice from the Library! We have new books arriving all the time and have such a diverse balance of books and genres.
In addition, what a success the Book Fair was! Thank you to APT for supporting and communicating out the information and to all volunteers who made it so special for the kids!
Our Family Pumpkin Decorating Activity is getting close! This annual activity generates a lot of ooohs and aaaahs as we all get to enjoy the decorated pumpkins. Please see LINK for information.
iPad Charging Reminder:
We've noticed iPads coming to school not charged, therefore impacting the student's opportunity to complete necessary work in classes. Please remind and help your student to charge his iPad nightly. In addition, this will also automatically update his iPad and keep it fresh and up-to-date. If his iPad is not plugged in, it will not update and this is critical to a successful use of his iPad.
Upcoming Lockdown Drill:
Please read the following letter with information about our upcoming lockdown drill to address a school shooting incident. Schools must provide sufficient information and notification to parents and guardians in advance of any walk-through lockdown drill that involves the participation of students. Schools must also provide parents and guardians an opportunity to exempt their child for any reason from participating in the walk-through lockdown drill. If you wish your student to be exempted from the law enforcement lockdown drill, please contact me, Susan Milsk to let me know.
Sincerely,
Susan

Early Childhood Screening
District 67 offers an early childhood behavioral and developmental screening for families with children aged 3- 5 years old residing within District 67 school boundaries. This screening is free of charge.
Early childhood developmental screening provides an opportunity for young children and their families to access a wide variety of services and early childhood programs, and promotes and supports parent/guardians understanding of their child's health, development, and learning needs. If you have any concerns about your child’s development, please sign up for a screening appointment by using this form.
Screenings are offered on the following dates:
- Tuesday, October 18

Deerpath Road Resurfacing - Begins the week of Oct. 17
IDOT’s contractor will begin resurfacing Deerpath Road the week of October 17 (one week later than originally planned). Deerpath Road will be resurfaced from Westmoreland Road to the west side of the creek adjacent to the Public Safety Building. Resurfacing involves grinding the roadway and placing new asphalt, which will require intermittent lane closures with flaggers directing traffic.
To limit traffic impacts, the contractor has been instructed to avoid lane closures on weekdays during peak school traffic hours (i.e., 7-8 am, 3-4 pm). Since Deer Path Middle School has conferences on Friday, October 21, the City has given the contractor permission to work throughout the day without stopping.
Please allow extra travel time getting to/from school next week.
National School Bus Safety Week
Held during the third full week of October each year, National School Bus Safety Week is an active and evolving public education program and an excellent way for parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus operators, school administrators, and other interested parties - to join forces and address the importance of school bus safety. Look for more information next week. In the meantime, please take a moment to read and share the document, which teaches children to be safe in, and around the school bus.
