Dramatic Irony
What does it mean?
Dramatic Irony is when the audience or reader know more than the character themselves.
Why do we use Dramatic Irony?
It creates a suspenseful air to the story, making it so that the reader is kept on the edge of their seats. Also it can be used for humor, when a sentence is used out of context but only the readers know that, making the character think that something bad is going to happen when in reality something good is going to happen.
Examples
If you are watching a scary movie and you see the killer in the background right behind the main character.
When you're reading a book and a character is making a plan that the other characters do not know about.
When you know a character is planning something bad but the other do not and act normal.
All of these are examples of dramatic irony.
