Davenport Weekly Update
Week of January 5th
Student Achievement
Second Graders Explore Erosion
Mrs. Heck and Mrs. Collado teamed up their students to do a weathering and erosion experiment. The students used a cookie to represent the landform, toothpick (people and animals), dropper (rain), and straw (wind). The students loved working together and discussing how the cookie changed depending on the weather!
"Let's Make Hot Chocolate!"
Preschool students in Mrs. Scalise's speech group made hot chocolate this week. The students focused on skills such as sequencing, taking turns, labeling, and following directions. The reward at the end was drinking the delicious hot chocolate!
Climate and Culture
Taste the Rainbow!
Thanks to Primary art teacher Mrs. Pfaeffli and K-1 students, the Primary School cafeteria has a colorful new addition! Mrs. Pfaeffli and her students created a rainbow of fruits and vegetables to decorate the wall, as well as serve as a bright reminder of the healthy foods that students should be eating!
Character Education
Primary students took part in the monthly Character Education assembly held by school counselor Ms. Caruso. Each class had two winners for the month of December, which focused on kindness. Ms. Caruso then introduced January's word of the month, which is friendship. While teaching students about friendship, Ms. Caruso even taught students how to say "friend" in American Sign Language! We will be looking for good friends this month so keep up the good work!
Community Pride
Parents' Club is Holding Krispy Kreme Fundraiser
The Davenport Parents' Club is holding a Krispy Kreme Doughnut fundraiser this month. Order forms went home with students this week to be shared with family and friends if they wish. Orders are being taken until Wednesday, January 22nd and order pick up will take place on Friday, January 31st. If you still need an order form, please contact your child's classroom teacher and we will make sure to send one home.
