COPING WITH SECONDARY TRAUMA
Be aware of negative emotions you are experiencing throughout the day, this is common among most people who have experienced a trauma , or secondary trauma.
Seek support from friends , family members , church clergy , mental health counselor, community center, etc .
- Spend time engaging in spiritual and religious activities to improve your mental well being. (e.g. meditating , praying , nature walks , listening to calming ocean or nature sounds.)
- Limit the time your watch news outlets related to social issues that trigger your trauma and or negative emotions to 30 min to an hour a day.
- Find other outlets on TV ( T.V. Series , Game Shows , Favorite Movie )
- Discuss Positive social issues , and events at work and at home with others.
- Engage in Non-Violent advocacy that support your stance.
- SMILE & LAUGH
