Unit 1 Assessments
This week the students worked hard to finish the Unit 1 assessments in reading and math. They should be extremely proud of themselves. There has been a lot of great learning taking place throughout the first 6 weeks of the school year. I look forward to sharing individual assessment results with you later this month at parent teacher conferences.
Enrichment Time
Did your child tell you they have been building with Legos here at school? Well, they are right. Mrs. Pollock has been visiting our classroom for the last couple of weeks so the students can participate in a STEM building project. During her time in the classroom the students worked in cooperative groups to accomplish a building task. This week the task was to build a tower to hold a book by a bed. Groups quickly started by using the biggest block as the base of their tower. As the project continued many realized that if they did that they would not have a block big enough to hold the book. It was interesting to watch the dynamics of the groups and the process the students used to create the tower. Ask your child to tell you about their tower.
Fun Run Celebration
Next Friday, October 16, the 2nd grade classes will be celebrating our Fun Run Success by rewarding the students with the following fun activities. On that day the student can wear crazy socks and crazy hair. They will also receive a fun new pencil, a night of no homework, and participate in a dance party and an extra recess throughout the day. It is going to be a fun time!
Book Fair
My class will have an opportunity to preview the books at the book fair Wednesday morning. If you are interested in your child buying books at the book fair, we will be going Thursday morning or if you are attending Family Reading Night you are invited to shop with your child that evening too.
