Third Grade News from Mrs. C
Sept. 21st- 25th
Tidbits From the Teacher
Hi Everyone-
Have I already told you a million times how awesome I think our class is? I haven't?!?! Well, let me tell you that I have the BEST class in the school and it was confirmed at Friday assembly! We were recognized as a spotlight art class, one of our students answered a question and received a PIG(!!!) as a prize, and we were chosen as the Golden Plate winner for cafeteria manners. WHOA!
Our first math test is Monday. I know everyone is studying and is nervous. Please know that the math test will be weighted less than daily work. Everyone is learning how to study and take a third grade test right now. If your child can work problems like those on the review, they will be ready for the test! I did add some interactive practice links on my website. The class asked for ways to practice so I'm trying to deliver!

What We're Studying and Learning...
Reading- This week in reading we are learning about character traits and how characters develop throughout the story. We will be analyzing characters as we read in class and start writing responses to the text we read. As you read with your child, have them describe the changes the characters in the story are going through. These changes can be both internal and external.
Handwriting- We are starting cursive this week!
Writing- We are busy writing personal narratives in class. This is just a fancy way of saying "our story." We'll begin revising with a partner and editing for punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. Ask your child about the draft he/she is creating.
Math- In math we are having our place value test then starting our study of the x2 and the x4 multiplication strategies! They are related to each other in a big way!! Ask your child to show you the “Double Double” strategy for x4 by the end of the week!
Social Studies- We are continuing with Freedom Week. We will be reading and performing plays for our classmates about the amendments this week. Student Council Representative information will be available for interested students beginning Monday, Sept. 21st. Forms need to turned in to me by Thursday at the latest. (only those interested will apply)
