Curriculum Corner! From Dr. Davis
Many of you in the building are working on getting even better at conferring with students. I want to help you reach your goals!
Jennifer Seravallo developed the graphic above to give an overview of what a reading conference is and how it can be used. Conferring is a chance to get to know your readers and model thinking for them. Seravallo explains a little more in her blog post here: https://blog.heinemann.com/making-conferring-manageable
Many of these ideas can translate easily to a math classroom, as math teachers are also looking to gather information and learn how their students are thinking about their work. In her blog post, Jen Munson that math conferences do have a slightly different focus, though. She explains that in a math conference, a teacher “opens a door” for students to figure out their own ways to solve problems instead of modeling strategies for students. Read more here:
