NHS Trip to Louisville
The National Honor Society recently took an educational trip to Louisville, Kentucky in order to broaden our cultural experience and historical knowledge. After a 2-hour bus ride, the Kentucky Derby Museum at Churchill Downs was the first destination. There, we learned about the history of the Kentucky Derby and the horses that have made a lasting impact on the legacy of the Derby. At the end of the tour, everyone was allowed to customize their own Kentucky Derby hat. We then headed to the Mega Cavern, considered the largest building in Kentucky, to access their high-ropes course. The Louisville Zoo followed, home to more than 1,100 animals. Some of the notable animals we saw were snow leopards, lions, gorillas, white alligators, and polar bears. On Thursday night, we went on a ghost tour of historic Louisville, the oldest Victorian neighborhood in the country.
The next day, we departed from our hotel and headed for the Muhammed Ali Center, where we learned about his legacy on the city of Louisville and the world. After watching an educational video on his past and exploring three floors of the museum, we headed to our final destination, the Louisville Slugger Museum. There, we went on a factory tour and saw the stages that each individual baseball bat goes through before it is put in the hands of professional baseball players. Overall, the trip allowed us to expand upon our historical knowledge of the largest city in Kentucky, and enlightened us on what makes Louisville such a well-known city.

WSU Director of Bands Visits CMHS
Dr. Shelley Jagow, Director of Bands at Wright State University, visited the band program on Thursday, March 9th. The clarinet and saxophone players were able to participate in a reed clinic. This clinic provided them with the opportunity to learn new techniques as well as play on a variety of new mouthpieces and reeds.
Dr. Jagow then provided a clinic for the concert band. She listened and evaluated the band's music for their upcoming large group competition. We would like to thank Dr. Jagow for her visit to Clinton-Massie.

CCP Information for Next Year
1. You must watch the information/counseling presentation (either have attended in person on February 9 at CMHS, have gone to the session at Laurel, or watched the video link online).
2. You (and a parent) must complete the Letter of Intent to participate in CCP for the 2023-2024 school year. This must be completed by ALL students who want to participate in CCP, even if you have previously participated. If you completed the forms at the Laurel Oaks session, that is fine.
3. You must go on to the websites for the college(s) of your choosing and apply to be a CCP student. If you are currently a CCP student (or were accepted within the last two years), you do not need to reapply. Here is a link to Sinclair's site (you'll use this if you're taking classes at CMHS).
4. Once you have applied, the college will reach out to the Guidance Office to ask for your transcript and other needed information. We will get that information sent to the college.
5. You may need to take placement testing. If you're graduating in 2024 or 2025 and you have a 3.0 unweighted GPA AND have two completed English credits and/or three completed math credits, you likely will not need to test for placement in fall classes; however, if you want to take summer classes, you may still need to test if you are Class of 2025. If you're in the Class of 2026 and beyond, you will need to take placement testing, regardless of your GPA. The college you want to attend will have their information listed on their site as to what placement testing you need. If you're attending Sinclair, their placement testing information can be found on this site; you'll need to call and schedule an appointment to test.
6. Once you have applied and completed placement testing, the college will let you know whether you were accepted. If you were accepted, they will send you information regarding registering for classes. Summer course registration for Sinclair opens on March 20. Fall course registration for Sinclair opens on April 10.
If you have any questions, please contact Miss Beres or Ms. Sercu.
