1st grade Newsletter
Miss Vaughn's Class
Week of May 2-6
Reading- We are using our schema to make predictions this week! We are also going to be exploring "theme" in our books and the "moral" of the story! BIG 2nd grade skills!!!
Math- We have taken our end of the year assessments in 1st grade and now are going back to look for the gaps in our learning! We will be starting with a review of Fact Families and then time to the half hour!
Writing- We are making a full circle in our Writer's Workshop and coming back to where it all started this week with Small Moment Stories! These are the stories that are a zoomed in moment of something that really happened such as a vacation or a fun day at school!
Science/Social Studies- We are focusing on geography and maps in Social Studies and in Science we are working with heat and temperature. We will be making a Solar Oven this week! We need some warm days!!
Our field trip to the St. Louis Zoo is coming up on Thursday, May 5!!! We are so excited! Please send your child with comfortable shoes and sunscreen! They will be carrying their lunches in their backpacks. The bus leaves school promptly @ 8:30 am so please have your child on time to school. We won't be able to wait!!!!!

My whole life I've been a HUGE hockey fan and even attempted to play at one time :) I'm PUMPED for playoff hockey and the kids all know it!! GO BLUES!!
