Goshen Center School
Regional School District No. 6
Dear Families and Community Members,
Yesterday, Goshen Center School participated with the other Region 6 Elementary Schools and with PK-12 schools from around the world in Global School Play Day 2017 (GSPD) and enjoyed some unstructured play time. Unstructured play helps students to develop creativity, passion, communication, collaboration, and a wide variety of other important skills. In his TEDx lecture, Peter Gray argues the case that today's kids do not grow up playing, which has negatively impacted them in many ways. Gray’s talk inspired the creation of Global School Play Day.
It is our hope that this one afternoon of play can inspire families to plan for more unstructured “electronic-free” play time during non-school hours.
Pictures of our playing during the hour of play are below!
Activity Night and Sports Clinic
On Saturday, February 11th, all 4th, 5th, and 6th graders are invited to participate in an activity night and sports clinic that will run from 5pm to 7pm in the small and large gyms at Wamogo. Run entirely by peer leaders from Wamogo's senior class, students will enjoy an evening of fun with organized team games and a schedule of activities. The price is $10 per student and concessions will be available for sale throughout the evening - the proceeds of which go toward student activities. Students should enter through the front of the building by the Wamogo cafeteria and can be picked up in the same place. If you are interested in chaperoning this program or have any general questions, please email Steven Bagley at Sbagley@rsd6.org
Middle School Mixer
On Friday, February 24th, Wamogo is proud to host the 1st annual Middle School Mixer: Dinner and a Movie. This event is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and features a full pasta dinner and a movie to follow directly after. The price is $15 per person with concessions for sale right before and during the movie, the proceeds will help support student activities. Come join your friends and peers for a night of food and fun! Dinner will be from 6:00pm until 7:00pm in the Wamogo cafeteria. The movie will start at 7:15pm in the auditorium. Pickup will be 9:15 in the BACK of the building. If you have any questions, please forward them to Steven Bagley at Sbagley@rsd6.org .
