LS LIBRARY NEWSLETTER MARCH 2017
Winter is on my head, but eternal spring is in my heart.
A NOTE FROM MRS. KNAUER
If there are titles you would like to read over Break, feel free to visit the LS Library and gather a few. During March, we will celebrate Youth Art Month by doing activities relating to Drew Daywalt's books, The Day the Crayons Quit and The Day the Crayons Came Home. Classes will enjoy Irish folktales and stories of leprechauns. We will also celebrate National Library Week.
KNAUER FICTION FAVORITES
There are different kinds of teachers: the good ones, the not-so-good ones, the boring ones, the mean ones, the ones who try too hard, the ones you’ll never remember, and the ones you want to forget. Ms. Bixby is none of these. She’s the sort of teacher who makes you feel like the indignity of school is worthwhile. She is one of a kind. When Topher, Steve and Brand find out that Ms. Bixby is sick and has to finish the year early, they take some consolation in the fact that they can give her a good "last day". John David Anderson tells a story of three kids, a very special teacher, and one day that none of them will ever forget.
WOLF HOLLOW is set in the shadow of World War II in a rural Pennsylvania town called Wolf Hollow. Annabelle must stand strong when confronted by her classmate Betty, a manipulative tyrant. When Annabelle rebuffs Betty's demands, she unintentionally shifts Betty's attention onto the solitary World War I veteran Toby. When Betty goes missing, the town immediately suspects Toby of wrongdoing. Annabelle, certain that the gentle, scarred Toby would never hurt Betty, sets out to clear his name and open the town's eyes to the truth.
Isaiah the Mouse can read and write. He can also talk to humans...if any of them are willing to listen! After a dramatic escape from a mysterious laboratory, Isaiah is separated from his family, and has to use his special skills to survive in the dangerous outdoors...and hopefully find his missing family. But, it's hard for a young, lone mouse to make it alone in a world of cruel cats, hungry owls, and terrified people. When he meets an equally unusual and lonely human girl named Hailey, the two soon learn that true friendship can transcend all barriers.
