Welcome Back Distance Learners
August 2020
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to Mankato Area Public Schools Distance Learning for K-5 students! We’re excited about the opportunity to get to know you and we are looking forward to a happy, healthy and productive school year.
Entrance conferences will be held virtually through a Google Meet link provided to you by your student’s teacher. The dates of entrance conferences this year are Sept. 8 & 9. You will be receiving a scheduling link from your home elementary school around Sept. 1. We will also provide a time for your student(s) to pick up any necessary school supplies and/or device if you indicated need on your census verification. We will utilize the entrance conference to get to know you and ensure that you are familiar with the LMS your student(s) will be using this year. School Supplies will be the same for our distance learners as our hybrid students this year. School supplies link: Click here
The Curriculum for this year will follow a scope and sequence consistent with that of students that are participating in the in-person and hybrid models. We will have strong support for our students in the area of social emotional learning in each of our distance learning classrooms. Each distance classroom will have a schedule for your student to follow for the week in Kindergarten-Grade 5. Our distance learning classrooms (Kindergarten - Grade 5) will have a blend of synchronous (live) and asynchronous (guided independent work time). Students will be expected to be on with our synchronous sessions as often as it is possible and they will be recorded for review and/or missed content. Classrooms will plan events to encourage a sense of belonging and community (ie: Pajama day, share a book day, morning meeting, etc) throughout the school year as your child’s classroom will be a blended classroom from area Mankato elementary schools.
We will offer distance learning family orientations at the beginning of the school year. Dates will be available soon.
Studies show that parental involvement in a student’s education is one of the strongest indicators of student achievement. We hope you will make it a priority this year to partner in education!
If you have any questions or concerns you can contact either tolson1@isd77.org or jrittm1@isd77.org.
Once again, welcome to Distance Learning. Let’s work together to make this a great year!
Sincerely,
Travis Olson, Director of Teaching & Learning
