If you're planning a trip to Jamaica for whatever reason (business, family reunion, etc.) there is some very important information you need to have in front of you. This application will tell you everything from where to get a passport to when you can leave and go back to Jamaica. Here's what you need to know.
Before you can travel to another country, you will first need to apply for your Jamaica Travel Authorization. After you click that, it will ask if you live in Jamaica or if you are a nonresident of the other country. Click on "No" if you don't live in Jamaica. This will take you to National Portrait Gallery website where you can fill out the forms. Once you have provided all necessary information, you can check-in electronically at your port of call.
If you're Jamaica-bound and you need to leave the island at any time, you'll need to check-in with the Jamaica Gardening Authority. This is the equivalent to a US customs officer. The Gardening Authority has all sorts of important information about Jamaica, including its social distancing markers and the procedures for entering and exiting the island. It is a good idea to visit the Jamaica Gardening Authority before leaving the island. There is even a Jamaica Travel Authorization form that you can complete and print out at home before you leave. It is a great resource to have on hand for any emergency situations.
After you have applied for your Jamaica Travel Authorization, you will need to undergo a drug test at the designated Jamaica Health Office. If you fail, you'll be required to perform 100% of the approved social distancing procedures approved by the Gardening Authority of Jamaica. If you pass, you'll get a positive identification card and be allowed to proceed to another screening center. Keep in mind that if your Jamaica Travel Authorization was granted based on a negative covid-19 test, you will be required to undergo a second drug test. On successful completion of the drug test, you'll be issued a Jamaica Travel Authorization card with a red lock on it.
However, keep in mind that not all countries require you to pass a drug test upon entry or exit from their territory. It is possible that a failed drug test could have been the only factor in granting permission to enter Jamaica. In these situations, the Jamaica Travel Authorization will be considered null and void and you will not be allowed to proceed with your travel plans. However, you can request a refund of the money paid for your Jamaican Travel Authorization. The Gardening and Social Distancing Units of Jamaica are the only bodies that can legally cancel your travel plan without giving any reason whatsoever.
The Jamaica Travel Authorization is valid for three years or, in the case of a negative covid-19 pcr test, six years. If your Jamaica Travel Authorization expires while your Jamaica Travel Permit is in effect, you may apply for an extended Jamaica Travel Authorization. Extensions are not granted by the Gardening and Social Distancing Units of Jamaica. However, once you have obtained a negative covid-19 pcr prescription from the Gardening and Social Distancing Unit of Jamaica and your application for an extension has been approved, you may apply for an additional six years period. For questions about the validity of your Jamaica Travel Authorization, contact the Gardening and Social Distancing Unit of Jamaica.
