UPDATE FROM THE NURSE
The Health Room has been seeing an increase in students at school who have returned after vomiting illnesses too soon. Please review the district policy below:
VOMITING/DIARRHEA: Your child must not have any episodes of vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before they can return to school.
It does not matter what the cause of the vomiting is. Students are required to stay out until 24 hours has passed.
Sometimes it is hard to know when to send your student to school or keep them home. This link can help:
https://www.nsd.org/schools/get-started/health-services/when-should-my-child-stay-home
The results from these tests will give a more accurate picture of whether students are on track to be ready for college or career.
Students will take the tests online, here at school. Canyon Creek testing schedule is:
3rd Grade:
- English Language Arts - 5/2, 5/4 and 5/5. (DONE)
- Math - 5/18 and 5/19
- English Language Arts - 5/9, 5/11 and 5/12.
- Math - 5/15 and 5/16.
- Science - 5/19.
For more information about the Smarter Balance and WCAS tests, click here, and select the name of the test.
Please email Craig Richardson at crichardson@nsd.org if you have questions about state testing. Thank you for continuing to work with us to make sure your student is successful. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to better support your student. We want your student to leave us with a solid foundation of skills and a future full of opportunities!
Attendance
Attendance Line + Email
When your child will be absent or tardy, please email ccattendance@nsd.org and CC your student’s teacher OR leave a message on our 24-hour phone line at 425-408-5710 by 9:50am. If the absence is reported after 9:50am, you may receive an automated call.
If you are concerned that your student's absences have not been updated, please email ccattendance@nsd.org requesting confirmation.
Student Drop-Off
Students should be dropped off no earlier than 9:00am when campus supervision begins and picked up no later than 3:45pm at the end of the day.
Early Pick-Up
If your child will be leaving early for the day, families/guardians will need to send a note, email both the teacher and ccattendance@nsd.org, or call the office on the main line at 425-408-5700. Please do not leave a message on the attendance line. Please avoid picking up during their scheduled lunch, recess or specialist time. It can be especially difficult to find students on the playground and in the cafeteria.
Only an authorized person may take a child from school. Any student being dismissed prior to the regular dismissal time must be met in the office, where the student must be signed out by the parent/guardian or authorized person. Families are not permitted to walk directly to classrooms.
Change in After School Plan
If there is a change in your child’s after school plan or how they will be getting home, parents/guardians must send a note or email your student’s teacher and ccattendance@nsd.org before school starts. If a change is needed after the start of school, please call our main office line at 425-408-5700 to ensure that we get the message to your student and their teacher in time for dismissal. Please do not leave a message on the attendance line.
Pre-Arranged Absences
In the event that your child will miss more than two consecutive school days for a reason other than health or medical issues, complete and submit the Pre-Approved Absence Request Google Form at least one week before the first planned day of absence. Access the form here!

Kindergarten Enrollment 2023-24
Is your student starting kindergarten this fall?
To enter kindergarten, your student must be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2023. Kindergarten enrollment for the 23-24 school year is now open. Not sure which school your student will attend? Enter your address in our school finder.
Before school begins, kindergarten teachers will meet with families to get to know the students, their families, and their stories. Additionally, teachers evaluate students in many areas to determine students' strengths. This helps teachers plan a program based on the needs of the children. Stay tuned for more information!
Highly Capable Process for Kindergarten
The kindergarten eligibility process incorporates two different screening tools. Parents and teachers do not nominate or register students. All kindergarten students will be automatically screened for potential highly capable eligibility. Visit the Highly Capable Services page for more information.
