Back to School: Updates and Information
Video Message from Mr. Grensteiner
Team,
I hope you are all well and enjoying summer. Though we do not officially start school until September 10th, I know that we are all anxiously awaiting the plan of what school will look like this fall. As this plan becomes more clear each day and all members of the district team are collaborating to ensure we have the best information to make decisions, we also know that we are still awaiting a few pieces of key information before the "complete" plan can be finished and shared. Which model we start the school year in will be contingent on the amount of identified COVID cases within our county. This is the key factor that determines the decision in which model we will choose (all back, hybrid, distance learning).
Information like: which and how many students will opt into the distance learning model (impacts "in house" enrollment), which and how many staff members will be able/unable to return to the building to serve students, and the results of the family Census Verification, will all create a ripple effect in how and who will serve students within these settings and models. With this said, there is much we do know and have already made strides on.
Below is information for you as a staff to get a preliminary feel for our direction and plan as we inch closer to September 10th. Please know that a similar form will be communicated with parents tomorrow to help guide parents in making the best possible decision for their families.
COVID 19 Preparedness Plan - Shared last week in the email from Superintendent Peterson. Outlines health and safety expectations ALL schools MUST follow.
All students and staff must wear a mask - masks will be provided
Wash hands often
Social distancing
Monitor health daily - those with symptoms stay home
Cleaning and disinfecting protocols
Platforms for Learning
2. In Person Learning: This is defined as every student coming to school every day. We are not as bound to the occupancy requirements as we are in hybrid (see below). The health and safety measures laid out in the Safe Learning Plan will be in place, and there will be very specific changes to every aspect of your child’s day.-Students and staff will wear masks and follow social distance guidelines at school
-Students will be assigned an arrival time and entry door based on their transportation plan
(bus, walker, rider)
-Students will go directly to their homeroom class (Pod)
-Students will remain in their Pod for the entirety of the school day
-Lunches will be delivered to classrooms
-Students will take breaks outside with their Pod only
-Student dismissal will be staggered based on their transportation plan
- Elementary- Under the hybrid model, we are developing a plan to bring students to school 5 days a week meeting the 6 feet of social distancing throughout the day. This model will also result in very specific changes to every aspect of your child’s day (as listed above). In this model, there’s potential for the student day to end earlier than 2:30, possibly as early as 1:30.
- Elementary - K-2 will be Seesaw Plus; Google Classroom will be our platform for 3-5.
7. Reasonable Accommodations: A reminder of the message shared last week by John Lustig stating if you have a disability that affects your risk for contracting COVID-19 or being harmed if you contract the virus, you have the right to request a reasonable accommodation from the school district. If you believe this applies to you, please contact John in the Office of Administrative Services.
Lastly, please know that I and the entire district team care about you very much. We are thinking deeply about the emotional and physical health of all staff and are committed to supporting everyone through the challenges we face. As we collect the key data as mentioned above, this will help us guide and plan for September 10th. In the coming week, I will be first connecting with our team leadership group to work out a few big picture details, followed by, more specific questions/details to come. Until then, remember, we are still on summer break. :)
Take advantage!
See you all soon,
Brian
