No School for students
What a fantastic week back! Lots of smiles as our students get back into the school routines!
Today, our school got a treat from the Irondale Drama Department - a sneak preview of their performance of It's Magic!
Our next meeting is Thursday January 11 at 6:30pm in the library. The main topic will be ST Math. ST Math is a visual instructional program that Pinewood has been using for the last 2 years. Principal Skinner will explain how it is used at Pinewood and introduce the parenting component.
Please also mark your calendars for Thursday, February 8, 6:30pm. We'll plan to discuss the READ Act and the Science of Reading.
All are welcome and we'd love to see you there!
We need volunteers for events throughout the year! We use signup genius to keep things simple and flexible - you can sign up to volunteer if/when it works for you. If you'd like to join our volunteer list, please email Sara at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can also join our facebook group to stay updated on all things PTA: https://www.facebook.com/groups/pinewoodpta

Our American Indian Liaisons visit to discuss the Native American perspective during the Revolutionary War during 5th grade Unit Studies!
Limited open enrollment for 2024-25
At its December 12 meeting, the School Board passed a resolution opening enrollment to non-residents on a limited basis in grades K-5 for the 2024-25 school year. Applications are due by January 15, 2024. Learn more here.
Mounds View Public Schools continues to enroll more than 80% of its resident students, yet recent kindergarten enrollment has been smaller than the size of the graduating classes. This suggests that a smaller-sized enrollment bubble will continue to move through the grades each year. At the same time, Mounds View’s reputation as a Top 10 district continues to attract interest from non-resident families. Mounds View can meet a demand as well as address future declining enrollment by accepting non-resident students in grades and schools where their enrollment doesn’t negatively impact classroom sizes.
WINTER RECESS ANNOUNCEMENT
As we wait for a real "Minnesota snow," we're excited to embrace the snowy adventures ahead! To ensure that our students at Pinewood stay warm, cozy, and fully prepared for the fun outdoor play, we kindly remind you that winter gear (gloves/mittens, winter coat, snow pants, and boots) is required for students to sled, play in the snow, or on the field on snowy or wet days.
Pinewood teachers and staff are asking to partner with families to help our students enjoy the snowy season safely and comfortably. Thank you for your attention and support in keeping our kids warm and ready for outdoor fun!
EDGEWOOD 5th Grade Parent Information Night
**Please note, this is for students currently in 5th grade, entering 6th grade at Edgewood in the 24-25 school year.
We currently have our 5th grade Parent Information Night scheduled Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 6-7:30 pm. That night, we also have targeted parent meetings. We are thinking of making a change to have our 5th grade Parent Information Night on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, to allow us to invite our IMPACT families in for a meeting on January 23rd. The intention is to provide our IMPACT families with the opportunity for a targeted meeting as well as a meeting with administration on the same visit to school.
