Start With Hello
Each day will have a different theme to give us an opportunity to go out of our way to be kind to other members of our French Creek Community.
Monday: Get Caught Saying Hello Day (Everyone will be given a name tag and we will greet others by name throughout the building.)
Tuesday: Wear Green Day (Green is the official color for Sandy Hook Promise.)
Wednesday: Give a Compliment Day
Thursday: Random Acts of Kindness Day
Friday: “I Promise” Day (Students will pledge to demonstrate kindness and refrain from bullying or excluding others.)
Writing
In Writer’s Workshop, we will continue our narrative writing pieces, by learning how to craft powerful endings. Students will also learn how to revise with intent, by rereading their writing like detectives to make sure that it makes sense and sounds right.
Math
The children will review Unit 1 skills on Wednesday and take the Unit 1 test on Thursday and Friday.
*Please note that Home Links homework will begin nightly starting on Monday. However, there won't be homework on the nights of the review and test
Just two minutes of nightly practice will help our students learn their basic facts!
Reading
In Reader's Workshop, students will grow their reading stamina as they learn that readers get stronger by reading more and more! Students will also practice reading fluently in longer phrases and scooping up snap words. Snap words are words that can be read in a "snap".
Word Study will continue this week. There will be a Word Study test on Friday. The week's sort will be based on your child's ability and needs.
Last week's practice word study test will be coming home this week. Although this test does not need to be signed and returned, all future word study tests should be signed and returned. The grading rubric can be found on the back of the test. Please note, the discovery is not graded the first trimester so will be scored as NA on the rubric.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we will learn about our Constitution in honor of Constitution Day (September 17th)! This ties in with our current unit on Citizenship. The children will learn about the process of voting in the United States. Finally, we will begin reviewing for our Citizenship test which will be Friday, September 20th. Please be on the lookout for a review sheet coming home this week. The review sheet does NOT need to be returned.
