AVID at the Creek

Greetings BCMS Families!

We are so excited to announce that Battle Creek Middle School now has an AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, program! The AVID teacher and coordinator, Frances Jarmick, is new to Battle Creek but very familiar with the East Side as a Harding Mathematics Teacher for ten years. In AVID, students can learn valuable skills that help them prepare for high school and beyond. Students focus on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading. Right now, the biggest focus is organization through the use of planners, inquiry through developing questioning skills, and collaboration through pushing students to work together and learn from each other. Further academic support will be provided, as well as field trips to help expand students' view of what opportunities are possible and help them become a well-rounded young person, ready to take on the challenges of life. You can contact your child’s counselor if you are interested in enrolling them in AVID for an elective in the future!
