Citations VS. Attribution
For all research papers, you must give proper citations. This is usually MLA, although Rowan Cabarrus Community College is now requiring students to use APA format.
If you are using images or videos from Creative Commons or the Public Domain, attribution, not citation is required. Remember, a URL web address is NOT a citation NOR an attribution.
If you need help with attributions, see this Copyright refresher for Creative Commons and Public Domain attribution information.
Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL)
One of THE BEST RESOURCES for citations is from Purdue University: Purdue University Online Writing Lab “Purdue OWL” https://owl.purdue.edu/
Their suggested resources help with all types of citations, including in-text citations.
Two sites to create and generate citations are:
Easybib.com and CitationMachine.net
REMEMBER-if you are missing information or put incorrect information in the citation generator, your citation will be incorrect! (Citation maker sites are not always correct.)
When in doubt, consult Purdue Online Writing Lab (above)
You can use these to cite anything: books, websites, videos, interviews, images, etc.
ALWAYS click “review” and check for missing information before you copy and paste your citations! (If you see "N.P." in your citation, you are missing information)
Both of these sources are free to use for MLA citations.
Options for STYLE of Citation are provided: MOST teachers request MLA8 format.
MLA8 includes a URL; MLA7 does not include a URL.
APA citations are Free through Citationmachine.net, but cost on Easybib.
