CATS Corner
January 2018
From the Principal, Mrs. Dameron
I want to take this opportunity to wish all our Walker families a happy and healthy new year. I hope your holiday was relaxing and filled with memories to cherish with family and friends. Our students have transitioned back into their academic routines, and believe it or not, the end of the second marking period is quickly approaching. The end of the marking period is January 19 and report cards will go home on January 29. As always, please be sure to contact your child’s teacher should you have any questions about their progress. Additionally, it’s important for students to arrive to school on time. The power hour period provides students with a smooth transition to a day of learning. At this time, the students are reviewing concepts, finishing up work, getting breakfast, and participating in tutoring. To provide your children with a positive start to the day, please plan your morning so your child arrives at 7:45 A.M. They are unsupervised prior to 7:45am. Students are considered tardy after 8:05. Thank you for your support. Looking forward to a fabulous 2018!
Spring Emergency Crisis Drills
Spring Emergency Crisis Drills
The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority. To provide schools an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures, our district Superintendent has asked all students and staff to participate in emergency preparedness drills on a continuous basis. The goals of the emergency preparedness drills are to improve our ability to protect students, to save lives and to reduce injuries. The drills allow us to evaluate our Emergency Operations Plan and to improve our response skills. If you are in the building or outside of the building during one of our drills, you may be either locked out of the building or locked in the building until the drill is completed. A sign will be posted on the front doors to indicate that a drill is being conducted. As soon as the drill is complete, you will be allowed to enter or exit the building.
Spring Crisis Drills that will be conducted on January 19 and will include:
Secure the Building—Police Action
Shelter in Place—Weather Related
Shelter in Place—Hazardous Materials
Reverse Evacuation
In the event of an actual emergency, students will only be released to the parents and/or adult listed on the student’s Emergency Card.
Please make sure this card has updated and accurate information. It is a good idea to have several trusted adults listed on the card, including one or two who live within walking distance of the school. You should assume that in an actual emergency, telephone communication may not be possible. You should also discuss a family meeting place and reunification plans in advance with anyone listed on the student’s Emergency Card.
If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call our school office at 281-345-3200.
