Listen, Discuss, and Create!
After listening to the book Bently and Egg by William Joyce, students will put their skills of observation to the test. Students will work on sequencing, talk about the order of events in the book, discuss the animals hatched from eggs, and get to create stick puppets of the main character in the book. It is a full and fun class.

Magician's secrets revealed! For years, magicians have relied on scientific principles for their most amazing illusions. Students will witness tricks such as fire eating and the bed of nails while they uncover the science behind the magic!

Celebrate the arrival of Spring and learn the traditional art of Pysanky, Ukrainian egg decoration. Students will read Rechenka’s Eggs and discover connections between illustrations by author/artist Patricia Polacco and artwork from the Old Jail Art Center’s Collection. Each student will design his or her own egg in Ukrainian style, using geometric and organic designs. This project will include a review of 2D versus 3D forms as well as the division of shapes into halves and fourths.
Restore the Reef

For a number of different reasons, many oyster reefs along the Texas coast have become severely damaged. Learn a little about the ecological importance of oysters while discovering how and why the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department restores our oyster reefs in Texas.
