From our Principal

Dear Thunderbird families,

We hope you are all having a good week. I want to thank you all for supporting your kids with doing the iReady diagnostics!!! WOW! Our students are doing such a great job!! As you know, this is a new assessment system that also differentiates instruction for each student. This means each student has PERSONALIZED INSTRUCTION / lessons at their level in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Your child's teacher can let you know more.

Reminder: Wednesday, November 11 - Veterans Day - NO SCHOOL.

Have a great day!

XO

Mr. Daubenspeck

Thornhill Annual Fund

Hello Thunderbirds,

Thank you to every family that has donated to the Thornhill Annual Fund! As of today, 30% of our Thornhill families have participated, to raise a total of $115,762. For context, this is only half of what we raised last year, in the same amount of time (in 2019, we raised $230k and had 60% participation). This year has presented us with new challenges and many unknowns. We expect that we will need additional fundraising to maintain the staff and services that our Thornhill PFC funds for our students. If you’re interested in learning more, please join the Thornhill PFC meeting on Monday, November 9, as this will be a topic of discussion.

It's never too late to make your donation! We need you this year more than ever.

  • By Check: Please fill out our online form, make your check payable to “Thornhill PFC” and mail to: Thornhill Annual Fund, 6265 Virgo Road, Oakland, CA 94611.

  • Online: Click here to fill out the donation form and donate via PayPal.

Questions? Please email us at annualfund@thornhillschool.org.

Thank you for supporting Thornhill,

Adrienne Selke & Rianna Stoll

Co-Chairs, Thornhill Annual Fund

Please make sure that you have an Aeries Parent Portal! I still have a handful of parents who have not set up an account and registered their students. NO REPORT CARDS WILL BE MAILED OR AVAILABLE FOR PICKUP!

If your teacher tells you that printed materials need to be picked up, they will continue to be in the same spot — on the fence near the TK trailer and the Alhambra entrance.

About the Thornhill Newsletter

The Thornhill Parent-Faculty Club (PFC) eNews team publishes this weekly newsletter each Tuesday in the school year to communicate school, PFC and OUSD news, events and information.

Email submissions to our Newsletter Chair, Jill Evans, at newsletter@thornhillschool.org by 8 p.m. Thursday for approval—nothing sent after this will be included in the following week’s newsletter unless there are extremely compelling extenuating circumstances. It’s fine to include text in the body of the email with links and no formatting, and attach photos preferably as 150 x 150, 72 dpi JPG or GIFs only (not embedded in email or Word file). Submissions may be edited for spelling, grammar, brevity and clarity. Advertising and items not related to Thornhill are not accepted, as we need to keep the newsletter focused on need-to-know info for the community.

THANK YOU to everyone who submits articles and to PFC Board Members, Teachers, VPs of Communications Erin Proudfoot & Evie Nagy, PFC Presidents Rex Crum & Alicia Streight, and Principal Steve Daubenspeck. Member of Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
