Principal Stratton's Self-Care Strategy!
Caring Together!
At Gunn, Our Strength Is In Our Community!
Here at Gunn, whether we are working together in our classrooms or in our rooms at home, we are always together. Our Gunn leadership team, and staff know that community is what makes our school remarkable. Staying engaged and connected during this historic period is more important than ever.
I want to take this moment to thank every member of our community for your continued participation and commitment to equity and excellence. When we prioritize Self-Care, we are doing so because we know that the health of our community is reliant on the health of each member. I encourage parents, students, and staff to prioritize your own health and talk to each other about how you stay balanced. If we take care of our bodies well, our brains will be perfectly positioned to engage deeply and creatively. We will be better able to adapt, learn and grow through the ever shifting challenges we face.
Thanks for taking the time to read this communication and tune into us here at Gunn Headquarters! At Gunn, our strength is in our community. All of us must work together to ensure dynamic and continuous learning occurs, as we courageously strive for excellence.
Warmly,
Principal Stratton

Tech Help:
The link for tech help is at the very top of our Gunn website homepage https://gunn.pausd.org/
Here are further instructions on our website under Connecting and Tech Help for Students:
Access most student services (Infinite Campus, Schoology, Google Drive) through the ID portal. If you are new to PAUSD and have never logged into the ID Portal, your password is as follows: the first 2 are first letter of your official first name and first letter of your official last name in lower case. Then the exclamation point (!). The last 6 characters are comprised of the birthday in the form of MMDDYY. Total 9 characters.
You will change your password but the username is always your student ID number.
Example: Johnny Titan with birthday of July 4, 2001 would have an initial password of: jt!070401
If you have been a PAUSD student (Gunn or any other school) and don't remember your password, try to reset it yourself by clicking on "need help" on the id.pausd.org webpage.
After exhausting all self-help options, send an email support@pausd.org
All students: Username = student ID number.
Gunn Back-to-School Night, 2020
Do not miss this exciting event. I will open up the event (live) with a warm welcome to our community, followed by some introductions. Next, our PTSA, and our PiE representatives will present you with opportunities to engage, and support our school. More communication will follow about accessing this event.
Teachers are currently creating videos giving you an opportunity to "meet" them. They will present an overview of their classes, along with their approach to distance learning, while providing essential information about how to best communicate.
Our teacher BTSN videos will be made available to parents in each teacher's Schoology page between September 3rd at 6:30pm - September 6th at 6:30pm.
Please practice logging in to your parent ID portal and be sure you can access it along with your student's teacher's Schoology page prior to September 3rd.

The Critical Importance of Attendance
Showing up for classes is critical for students to access and engage in all learning opportunities. Please support your student by ensuring they attend their classes daily. Attendance behaviors are closely linked to academic achievement. Please check in with your student about their attendance and engagement habits.
If your student is going to be late to a period or will be missing one or more Zoom class periods, contact us at gunn-attendance@pausd.org (preferred) or (650) 354-8210.
Urgent/time sensitive information should be relayed to (650) 354-8231.
Office hours: 8:00AM - 4:00PM
Only the legal parent/guardian may excuse a student's absence or tardy
- Please report absences via email instead of phone call or voice messages, if possible.
- Any voice messages left after 2:30 PM will be documented by the Attendance clerk the next business day.
- It is the parent's responsibility to know when their student is not participating in class and to provide the reason, for all absences, to the school within 72 hours of the absence. Failure to do so will result in a student receiving a cut for the class and possible loss of opportunity to make-up work or tests.
When contacting the Attendance Office, please provide the following information (if leaving a voicemail message, please speak slowly and clearly and spell the name of the student):
- Name of the student.
- Grade level of the student
- Your name and your relationship to the student.
- Reason for the absence and the days/periods missed.
- Provide a valid email address or telephone number where you may be reached.
Textbook Exchanges and Needs
Students, who have filled out the textbook needs form, which was posted yesterday on Schoology, may pick up their books next week, from Monday, Aug.31st through Wednesday, Sep. 2nd (from 9-5 at Bow Gym).
Parents or Guardians may come in place of students to exchange and/or pick up books. Please have your student's name and grade level written on a piece of paper to minimize contact and to expedite the pick-up process.
English Books
Students who need books for their English classes can pick them up from the English Office* (N-100 - see map) as follows:
Kim, Kitada, Moyer, Munger, Owen, Paronable, Wells, Whichard, Zavack - this Friday from 9-3.
*You will need to walk to N-100 from the parking lot. Please socially distance according to signage and markings on the pavement.

Gunn Foundation
Support Gunn Students via the Gunn Foundation
Since 1968, the Gunn Foundation has been granting need-based scholarships to college-bound seniors in the Gunn community. Scholarships fund essential expenses— deposits, textbooks, fees, and college costs that are often unmet by aid packages. Especially now with the impact of COVID, Gunn Foundation scholarships can make a huge difference in the future of a Gunn student.
Look for the Gunn Foundation on Step 4 of the online back-to-school packet or visit our website (gunnfound.org) and consider making a donation to support a Gunn student. Your support, at any level, will truly make a difference.
