Ripon Cathedral School Update

Week ending Friday 14th September 2018

Fabulous Forest School

Big picture

Forest Schools

Children in Year 1 and Year 2 began their Forest School sessions! These are great educational experiences in the outdoors that encourage a love of learning, risk taking and respect for out environment. In Year 1 the children got stuck into the mud kitchen and they enjoyed making leaf crowns. At the end of their session they tucked into popcorn that had been made on the fire!

A Huge Thank You!

The Forest School adventure could not have managed such a good start without the support of our school families and their places of work. Danford, Brewer and Ives generously donated almost all of the building type supplies we needed. The National Trust are also on board and our thanks go to the Fountains Abbey staff who helped bring in logs. Several other parents have brought in everything from cable drums to old pots and pans for the mud kitchen - our grateful thanks to all.

A memorable visit to Holy Island

Year 5 are on their way back from a very special residential visit to Lindisfarne. Just before publishing we received a message from the coach: 'On our way home from Seahouses after our boat trip around the Farne Islands where we saw lots of seals and birds and had fish/sausage and chips!' We are all envious and are looking forward to hearing all about their adventures on Monday morning!

Respecting God's Creation

This week the children have been thinking about respect for God's creation. We explored how we need to respect our planet, the plants and trees, animals and fish within the oceans. Children thought about ways that they could help protect our most endangered species and how limiting our use of plastic can impact on the fish in the sea.

Celebration and Welcome Worship Assemblies

Individual class teachers will be letting you know when Thursday class celebrations will resume along with their timings. These assemblies are a great time to let you know about the children's learning and achievement. We will also be sharing with you our work about the Christian values that we have been exploring and how they help us to live our lives.

Welcome Worship assemblies will take place in the school Chapel on Thursday mornings at 9.00am.

If you are able to attend we would love to see you.

Suitable Clothing

As you can see from the news above, we love being in the great outdoors at Ripon Cathedral School! It would really help the children to enjoy our lovely grounds more if they could bring in a pair of wellies. Also, please remember that the British weather is often changeable, so even on a sunny autumn morning a waterproof coat might be needed by lunchtime!

Oscar's Wrap Around Care

Oscar's is back to its regular hours, opening for breakfast from 8am and running to 5.45pm after school. Booking is made using our online booking site. Just use the email address you have provided to school as your username and click 'forgotten password' the first time you use it. Please email us at school if you are experiencing any difficulties.

Due to staffing issues, it will not be possible to run any Oscar's days in the October half term break. However, we will be open for the full day on the Friday 19th October training day at a bargain cost of £20 for 8am to 5.15pm or £15 for 8am to 1pm/1pm to 5.15pm.

Pupil Data Collection Forms

Early next week we will be sending out individual sheets to every pupil in school which details the information we hold on your child. Please would you check the form carefully? We need to be sure that we have up to date information, for example on parent contact numbers or medical needs. Thank you.

Flu Vaccinations Available in School

Please visit this online form to consent for your child to receive their flu vaccine this term. This consent must be completed as soon as possible, to ensure your child can be vaccinated in school.
