Voyager Family News
May 18, 2020: Distance Learning Week 7
Strand Spotlights and Info:
Dear Voyager Families,
Thank you for continuing to do what is best for your family's health and well-being while managing continued challenges of distance learning and quarantine. Our counselor Sophia Frost is available for social-emotional support, as well as counselors at CORONADO SAFE (see section below), and our MFLC Marie Millard can be reached at 619-592-0093.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Sophia Frost has offered resources for the family. Your teachers will provide access to these activities!
5th Grade Promotion: We are committed to celebrating our 5th graders in the most personalized and special way possible. The concept we are considering is to hold promotion on our regularly scheduled day/time, June 11 in the morning, with families provided with an appointment time to drive up to receive certificate and congratulations from teachers. The County is issuing some guidelines for drive-up promotion/graduations, and we will adjust accordingly. As we continue to have discussions at the district and site, I would ask families to plan for June 11 AM to be the most likely time for our celebration to occur. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
Your SSES PTO is accepting nominations for Board positions for next year. Please see PTO section below for more information!
Formal distance learning for this school year will end on May 29 to allow staff to begin planning for our next phase. Our district's approach to preparing for next year is to plan for all possibilities, including a continuation of distance learning AND a plan for inviting all students and staff back to campus with class lists and a bell schedule prepared. We know there are MANY uncertainties and questions. Our preparations will include:
- Launching registration to determine student enrollment
- Planning for staffing
- Determining consistent online platforms and best practices for instruction
- Determining most appropriate curriculum for distance delivery with evolution to physical classroom learning in mind
Learn more from the latest update from CUSD here.
OUR THEME FOR THE WEEK is SECOND WIND: As we enter our last two weeks of Distance Learning as staff and families together, let's keep our engines revved to make the most of this time together, maximizing our opportunities for connections and learning.

Message from Mindy Hayes, SLO:
As each district continues to support students through distance learning and look to the future of summer school and the 2020/2021 school year, I encourage you (or your student) to continue to touch base with your child’s teacher(s) on a weekly basis. Monitoring your district and school websites is also a great way to stay up-to-date.
