New OCEAN K-12 Teacher & New OCEAN K-12 Schedule

The OCEAN K-12 and Online Program have grown so much that we have been able to hire an additional teacher who will be shared across both programs.

The new teacher, Katie Quimby will begin teaching with us October 18, 2021. Her classes will be located in Room 802. With the addition of a new teacher there will be some small changes to the OCEAN K-12 schedule. We have done our best to minimize the schedule changes, as well as expand some elective offerings.

Please review the new schedule that starts October 18 and sign up for the new middle grades or elementary electives if interested. If electives fill up we will let you know which choices we are able to accomodate.

What is staying the same:

  • K-8 class schedules for core subjects stays the same with the addition of some elective choices.

  • Most high school class schedules stay the same.

What is changing:

  • Monday CWP/Civics A will start at 1pm and English 11/12 will start at 2pm.

  • English 9/10 and World History will now be a combined course. The course will meet Monday 1-3pm and Wednesday 12-1pm.

  • High school seniors will have a Path to Graduation course every Thursday at 2pm.

  • Kate Quimby will be teaching 6th grade ELA and Social Studies and 9/10 English and World History. All other teachers will stay the same.

  • A few students will be assigned Katie Quimby as their conferencing teacher. You will get an email from your current conferencing teacher to let you know if there is a change.

  • Monday electives will be offered from 12-1pm for students in grades 5-8.

  • Tuesday and Thursday elementary electives will expand to offer Creative Enterprises and Natural History.

Meet Katie Quimby

Katie is an experienced teacher and school librarian that has worked in ALE programs in the Olympia School District. Please give her a warm welcome when you see her next week.

“I’m super excited to work with students and families in the OCEAN Program. I hope my husband, our puppy, our cat, and eventually, our chickens, will join me soon in Port Townsend. For now, I will spend my week living with my wonderful parents who live in PT, and then I will drive back to Olympia each weekend. I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you, and to many learning adventures!” Katie
