Miss Courtney and Miss Amy's Preschool Class
This Week ...
Our kiddos are now more independently coming in, hanging up their backpacks and remembering to take out their folders. They are coming into the classroom and making choices of fine motor items to play with. We have noticed some nice friendships blossoming and have used it as a time to promote social behaviors for our shy-guys (and girls).
On Monday, we had our first Miss Becky lesson. She read a book to us about Social Thinking, and we learned all about thought bubbles! We learned that we all have our own thoughts and feelings. In the story, we saw friends that shared the same thought and other friends that had their own thoughts. The kids then had a chance to go back to the tables and draw their very own thought bubbles!
Monday, we also started our Pete the Cat unit. We read "Rocking in My School Shoes". Then, we started a Pete the Cat project. Miss Courtney and Miss Amy modeled how to get the pieces off of the table and bring them back to our working station. Then independently, the kids looked at the model, noticed what they needed next and got the piece and glued it on.
On Tuesday, we noticed that many of the friends did not finish their Pete's from Monday and some had some missing pieces. The kids were given the CHALLENGE to look at the model and find their missing pieces. They did awesome! This was truly a kid work project! We can't wait for you to see them!! We also read Pete the Cat "I Love My White Shoes". Please know that many of these Pete books are available to watch on YouTube and you can see the tunes that we sing our Pete songs to!
Tuesday, we also had our first Miss Kara lesson. She is our physical therapist that does some lessons in the classroom. She helps us learn good ways to exercise and make our muscles strong. This week we played a version of "Red Light, Green Light". Although some of us were so excited, had trouble following the directions, by the end of the game we were all on track and enjoying it!
Wednesday, we did our first day of small groups. Miss Becky ran a small group to do some categorizing, Miss Courtney and Miss Tammy helped the kids paint their feet to pretend they walked in the blueberries, strawberries and mud that Pete the Cat walked in. The kids took turns painting each other's feet and then walking across paper. They had to take off their shoes and put them back on, a skill we will work on all year. Miss Amy ran a group for coloring and cutting. Again, the kids had to pick a color to match what Pete stepped in, find the color and color their pile. Then, they had to cut and glue the piles and Pete on paper. They did a great job! Miss Jean ran a small group that worked with numbers and patterning. The kids all had a chance to go to each center! We also got to play outside on Wednesday and enjoy the awesome playground and awesome weather!
Thursday, after choice time we listened to a Pete the Cat story and then created a Pete craft! We colored a Pete shoe and then made a Pete face. The kids are getting better with crayons, scissors and glue. It has been so fun for us all to see the creativity!
We started playing a game called "Stuck in the Mud" outside on the grass. It is a version of Freeze Tag that is really fun! As we get better at it, the kids really enjoy it. For the time being, they love the chance to run around like the crazy kiddos that they are!
Friday we read another Pete book and we let the kids play in shaving cream! They also had art with Mrs. Nice where they are learning about mixing primary colors to make new colors!
We had a crazy busy week that was full of fun activities! Thank you all for coming to Back to School Night!!!
