Disaster Drill Preparedness: We’re Not Scared - We’re PREPARED!
Some natural disasters can be predicted, giving schools enough warning to evacuate or take other safety precautions, but others can happen unexpectedly or go through rapid changes that suddenly put a school in danger. Because of those scenarios, here in Southern California we practice for such potential disasters by conducting drills in the event of an earthquake or tsunami.
This week our entire student body will have a disaster drill with evacuation. During this drill, a loud alarm may sound or an announcement will be made (since in a real disaster, that’s what we’d need to expect). Students will then be guided through proper inside procedures, followed by evacuation protocols. Evacuation is practiced in the event some buildings are unsafe in a real disaster.
Please take an opportunity to speak with your children about the information above. Also, please let your child’s teacher know if there is any concern regarding this safety drill.
Happy New Year! Stay SAFE :)
