The 2019 summer school program will begin on June 5th and conclude on June 27th for K - 8 and June 28th for 9-12. Literacy Night is Thursday, April 11
From Mrs. Garrison:
The reading literacy night committee has worked SO HARD to plan an event that people won't want to miss. Thanks team!
We've been working on getting hot dogs donated from Sonic and Quiktrip, hotdog buns from Hy-Vee, and individual bags of potato chips from Sam's. We'll have popcorn in the 3/4 grade pod.
We've planned some activities including a book walk - last one standing wins a book (gently used books from donations); a published author to come talk, read, and possibly sell her book; a pod with calm spots for families to read together; a book scavenger hunt; fluency games; a couple guest readers, the book fair; the library for library card sign ups, some short strategy videos for parents to use at home, and a survey for feedback. In addition to food and activities, we will have some prize drawings from community donors.
We have received so many donations from the community: Pearce is donating a free student photo package, Lynnette Thulin is donating baked goods, Love Coffee is donating a small basket of goodies, Mod Pizza, Culvers, Mo Mud, Sonic, Belfonte car was and so much more!
I would LOVE to have your help to make sure this night runs smoothly!

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4fafa629a0ff2-helpMath Intervention with Mrs. King
As a math interventionist, Mrs. King is required to pull out Tier 3 and 2B students to provide explicit math intervention on a daily basis. The curriculum is intensive and she progress monitors students in multiple areas every week. Students are instructed and progress monitored either on their grade level or previous grade levels dependent upon the benchmarking scores received through interventionist-administered assessments.
Scheduling is a beast!
- Mrs. King sure does appreciate that you understand she cannot be flexible with the time she pulls kiddos from your classroom.
By district directive, Mrs. King may ONLY pull students for Math Intervention during classroom writing or handwriting instruction.
- Did you also know that if students are identified to receive math intervention, they MUST receive intervention everyday?
How can you help ensure students receive Math Intervention daily?
- You can help by making sure you always send kiddos at their scheduled math intervention time OR gladly release them to Mrs. King when she comes to your classroom door.
You can also help by being cognizant of when you schedule library, counselor, DLT or other special events so your students don't miss those things because they are required to attend intervention.
Thank you again and again and again for understanding that by district and building directive, Math and Reading Intervention takes priority over Tier 1 instruction. Our hope is that all students receiving intervention will learn missing skills at an accelerated rate to they can return to your classroom full time and reap the most benefits from your Tier 1 instruction.
The Power of Exit Tickets!
- Questioning students, and each other, at deep levels
- Planning and implementing a student debrief at the close of every lesson
- Planning and executing daily exit tickets to use as a formative tool
Watch "Teacher Tooklit: Exit Ticket Elementary" to observe how one teacher explains the importance of and implements exit tickets.
Notice the teacher emphasizes there is not always a right or wrong answer, but rather uses exit tickets to glean the students' understanding of the process or concept.
Happy Happy Birthday!!
