Mental Health at FMS

Fulton Public Schools received a mental health grant last spring with a partnership of Missouri School Board Association and MU. This grant has provided us with support in the area of mental health throughout the school district. Specifically, FMS conducted a needs assessment through teacher and student screeners (as you received information about last month). The counselors and I received our school data back and met with our resources through the grant on action planning for the future. It is evident from our data that we need to provide a Tier 1 (all students) support first. The grant team is working to find research-based material that will work to meet the needs of our students. The specific areas revolve around friendship, empathy, respect, bullying, etc. and will fit in nicely to our exsisting PBIS matrix. We will use our WIN time during January to deliver these lessons. After January, our counselors will work to provide more intense intervention to those that need it. Middle school can be a tough time for kids. I am looking forward to the opportunity to provide more support with the social aspects of the middle school years and am so happy that we have support from the grant team to make it a reality.

The grant team also has resources for parents and families. I will begin to post those weekly starting in January. If you have specific needs, please feel free to contact me and I will help you find the resource that can best help you and your child.
