The chicks are coming! The chicks are coming! I am totally devastated that they are hatching over the weekend instead of at school. I hope a few of them wait until tomorrow! 7 have hatched so far and 9 more are trying. I am tweeting, and text through Remind 101 all the pics I can. I will show the kids all the pictures and video I can take. We will keep them all week and I will take them back to the farm next Monday. It is not easy to take care of that many little chickies and it drives my dogs crazy!
I have an official date for the zoo! We will go May 18 and we will be going with the first grade to the Fort Worth Zoo. I will probably be able to take 4 chaperones on the bus with me. Anyone can meet us there and enjoy the zoo with the kids. I will send home paperwork soon. The kids must ride the bus to and from the zoo in order to be counted present at school that day.
Ms Hayunga sent out an email about class placements for next year. We use a combination approach where the 2nd grade teachers do some sorting, a computer does some sorting and the office makes the final decisions. You cannot request a teacher by name but you can stop by the office and fill out a form if you have specific thoughts on the type of classroom environment, teacher and if there are any other issues that she needs to consider when making classes. There is a deadline for turning that form in, so please check it out quickly if you feel the need.
I mentioned before that 2nd grade is the host for Dia. We will have 8 classes from Lakeland Elementary joining us that day. We will have lots of fun things planned! Please plan a costume that is not too hot or difficult to move in as we will be outside and playing games through out the day. Get me their lunch orders as soon as possible as well.
I am going to try to work watching Charlotte's Web this week. We will finish the novel on Tuesday. We may have to watch small parts of it each day. They loved it! We will begin the BFG next. If you have a copy you can send in with your child or if you want to donate one to the class I would really appreciate it. I do not have a complete class set of the BFG like I do some of the other novels we have read. Thanks!
Have a great week! My 2 out of town daughters are coming home for Easter and with the chicks hatching I am full of joy and excitement! It will be a great week!

WHAT WE'VE BEEN LEARNING
Language Arts/Social Studies-We were all about baseball all last week! We read a true story about a little girl growing up during the era that women's baseball was jsut beginning. We also read Luke Goes to Bat and the biography of Jackie Robinson. Perfect timing with Ranger's opening day. We learned about literal and non-literal aspects of a text we read. We then read Amelia Bedelia books and identified some non-literal examples.
Science-We loved learning about how seeds travel and why they are shaped different ways to help them get to a good growing spot. We will complete plants this week and move on to animals and life cycles.
