Dear Parents,
Happy Fall! Although the weather is still warm, fall is here and Millsap is definitely settling into routines and getting used to our new building.
We are excited to begin welcoming PTO Volunteers back into our building beginning Wednesday, November 3. Please join PTO if you haven’t already and see how you can support in this way.
We are also welcoming lunch visitors into our building beginning November 3. Parents are invited to occasionally have lunch with their child at Millsap. Anyone other than the parent will need a note from the parent giving permission to have lunch with their child.
If you are planning to eat with your child, we ask that you follow a few guidelines:
- Check in at the front desk and get a visitor’s name tag.
- Sit with your child at the designated Visitor’s Table during your child’s lunch. Since teachers must monitor all students during lunch time, friends will not be able to join your child at the Visitor’s Table.
- Due to food allergies and FMNV (Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value) guidelines, food and snacks can only be brought for your child. Sharing of food is not allowed.
- When lights are turned out for “focus and finish up” time, we request that you refrain from talking to others.
- At the end of lunch, please exit the building through the doors in the front entrance of the building.
- There are a few days throughout the year that we do not have lunch visitors (ex. STAAR testing days). Please check the newsletter for specific dates.
- If your child should forget to bring their lunch to school, you may bring it during the school day. The receptionist will keep the lunch at the front desk and it will be delivered.
Stay tuned for more exciting events coming up in November including Field Days on Nov. 16-18!

The Birthday Marquee Is Back!
Make your child’s birthday extra special by having their name showcased on the Millsap Marquee located in the front of the school for everyone to see!
Birthday wishes will be changed out every Friday (unless otherwise noted) and displayed for a week for all to see & celebrate. There will 5 spots available each week for Millsap Birthday Wishes.
Due to limited availability, we suggest to reserve your child’s marquee spot ahead of your child’s birthday. If your child's Birthday week is filled, consider the week before or after. Does your child have a summer Birthday? Consider celebrating their name on the Marquee on their Half Birthday!
The cost is $15 for each Birthday Wish.
Counselors' Corner
Credit by Exam:
Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.
To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered in a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.
Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
If you are interested in getting more information about credit-by-exam, please contact the school counselor.
As school counselors, we also can help with connecting to community resources. One community resource is the Houston Food Bank. The Houston Food Bank allows for us to serve as a liaison for a program called Backpack Buddies. We send home canned and nonperishable foods home weekly in a backpack. If you are in need of this program, please call us at (281)897-4470. Other resources include outside therapists, church ministries, school supplies, backpacks, etc.
October's Core Value is Individuality!
When in doubt, please call or email for any assistance. We look forward to working with you and your family.
