In September, we have two exciting events that will take place. First, on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. we will be having a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Kesling Campus that includes both Kesling Intermediate School and La Porte Middle School. Then, on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, we will have an Open House from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to allow parents the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers, learn about clubs and to tour the building. As we progress through the school year, we need to continue to build a partnership between school and home to make the educational experience for all students that attend school the best possible. Education begins at home and parents are a child’s first and most important teacher. The education of a child becomes stronger when partnerships with schools are created. Please remember to like us on Facebook, visit the LPMS website for important information and continue to look for messages from the school through Skyward. These are the three main avenues that we will use to communicate important information.

Fall Athletic Fundraiser
Introducing Michelle Dickman - Family Resource Services
Hello, I am Michelle Dickman, and I am the Family Resource Services Specialist at the Kesling Intermediate and La Porte Middle Schools, and I am ready to serve parents. I have worked in a variety of school and community settings, but my most important role is being the parent to four children, all of whom are either graduates of LPCSC or are currently enrolled in LPCSC. I am beyond thrilled to be working with parents and the community in supporting student success.
The Family Resource Services office is next to the school’s front reception area. Please feel free to stop in. If you have questions about what is available in our community or are in need of assistance in connecting with area services, I am here to help you.
Parents will soon be receiving an invitation through Skyward’s parent portal to complete a Family Interest Survey. Please take a few minutes to complete this short survey. Your voice matters, and I want to offer programming that is of interest to parents. Check out the school’s website throughout the school year for opportunities that will be extended to parents. Parents are often untapped resources to our schools as well. Contact me, and let me know if you are interested in volunteering at school. There are numerous ways parents can serve through volunteering. When our students see parents being engaged within our school walls, this brings validation to students that they are worth your time and talents. I look forward to building new relationships this school year between parents, the community and Kesling Intermediate and La Porte Middle Schools. Together we can help our students flourish!
News from the Innovation Lab
The Innovation Lab is now open before school for any student who would like to work on the September STEM Build Challenge or to learn how to use TinkerCAD.com. Students can create a free account and have access to it their entire school career for 3D designs.
September STEM Build Challenge! During the month of September, students who would like to participate can build an object out of cardboard. They may use other materials as well, but the majority of the build must me made of cardboard. They may design a robot, model vehicle, jewelry, or anything else they can imagine. Projects will be put on display and one lucky winner will win a STEM kit to take home in a drawing at the end of each nine weeks!
Future Problem Solving Program - Student Club
What a fun way to end your day…. Working as a group to solve future problems!!
The FPS program gives students the opportunity to use their critical and analytical thinking skills, learn how to identify problems that are set in future scenes, and examine the world in constructive ways while exploring strategies for the future. Team members will follow the state format for solving three different problems that are set in the future. The results of the third problem will qualify four of the team members to compete in the state bowl.
Meetings are usually twice weekly after school for approximately an hour. Students may participate in both a school sport and this club. Allowances are made for those students who are actively involved in other activities.
Be a creative thinker, work as a team, and develop critical and analytical thinking skills, and most importantly HAVE FUN!!
Join even if you can only attend meetings occasionally – this club meets on and off throughout the month of March.
