Again this year, the PSC Culinary Department has donated over 35 cakes for the Petrova Winter Carnival Cake Walk. Their generosity and creativity make for a fun cake walk that generates funds for after school programming and fun activities at Petrova! Thank you PSC!

Thank you to the Shortells, Kargers, Jess Genaway, Amy Hyatt, the Bartholomew's, Miss Streeter and all of our students and families for making Winter Carnival 2020 amazing! 1st Place for school floats!

Mrs. Weakley’s and Mrs. Guglielmi’s Kindergarten classes followed up their Farm Unit with a lesson in butter making! First they heard a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson called, "The Cow". Students then worked together to shake the cream. They listened for a change in sound and watched as the butter formed while the buttermilk separated out. Finally, we washed the butter and gave it a try.

You can do this at home by putting heavy cream in a glass jar and shaking for about 10-15 minutes. Drain off the buttermilk. Rinse with cold water and drain again. Add salt if desired and enjoy!

Coming up in Ms. Phelan and Ms. Rondeau’s classes... pea shoots! These microgreens grow fast and easy. Look for instructions on growing your own next month!

Going on a road trip during Spring Break?

The Library Media Center has 40 Magic Tree House books on CDs that would be great for Kinder thru 3rd grade families. Mature students might want to check out the CDs for Gordon Korman’s three book series Island. We also have 3 Playaways for the older students that you use your own headphones with to listen to a chapter book - Lawn Boy by Gary Paulsen, Bridge to Terabithia, and So B. It by Sarah Weeks. Send a note granting your child permission to check them out for the family to Mrs. Salamy, email her at or call 897-1654. Please specify which one you would like them to have. The print book comes with each audio item.

Cool ART News with Ms. Moore

Thanks to a donation from ADK Health of unused sponges, Ms. Moore and her art students have been able to create some gorgeous works of art! According to a press release from Brittany Proulx, Mary Scollin, who's an RN in the OR, doesn't like to be wasteful, so when she noticed that sponges in one of the kits were being thrown away, she decided to collect them and bring them to Petrova Elementary School! Thank you ADK Health!
