A NOTE FROM FARM TO SCHOOL--MRS. FOPPERT
Mrs. Weakley’s and Mrs. Guglielmi’s Kindergarten classes followed up their Farm Unit with a lesson in butter making! First they heard a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson called, "The Cow". Students then worked together to shake the cream. They listened for a change in sound and watched as the butter formed while the buttermilk separated out. Finally, we washed the butter and gave it a try.
You can do this at home by putting heavy cream in a glass jar and shaking for about 10-15 minutes. Drain off the buttermilk. Rinse with cold water and drain again. Add salt if desired and enjoy!
Coming up in Ms. Phelan and Ms. Rondeau’s classes... pea shoots! These microgreens grow fast and easy. Look for instructions on growing your own next month!

Going on a road trip during Spring Break?
The Library Media Center has 40 Magic Tree House books on CDs that would be great for Kinder thru 3rd grade families. Mature students might want to check out the CDs for Gordon Korman’s three book series Island. We also have 3 Playaways for the older students that you use your own headphones with to listen to a chapter book - Lawn Boy by Gary Paulsen, Bridge to Terabithia, and So B. It by Sarah Weeks. Send a note granting your child permission to check them out for the family to Mrs. Salamy, email her at salamylau@slcs.org or call 897-1654. Please specify which one you would like them to have. The print book comes with each audio item.
