---------------------------------------
Thank you for attending Parent/Guardian Conferences with us in October. It was great to share the many successes your child has had throughout the fall.
The MHMS forensics season will be starting soon, we won't be studying crime scenes or testing DNA, our middle school forensics program is about having fun while improving our public speaking skills. Forensics is a great opportunity for any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader who wants to practice public speaking or acting in small groups or individually. Our first meeting will be afterschool on Monday, December 18 until 4:30. Forensics practice will be after school Mondays, (some) Tuesdays and Thursdays in January. There is a little flexibility in practice attendance and we are happy to work around other schedules. We visit two area schools where our students perform their rehearsed pieces for a small audience and a judge. If you are interested, please fill out this form. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Buechner (buechnertheresa@mhasd.k12.wi.us) or Mrs. Gorski (gorskisusan@mhasd.k12.wi.us).
Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Vape Awareness
Families can play a significant role in protecting their children from the consequences and addiction to vaping. Our goal is to partner with families to bring more awareness to the vaping epidemic.
According to The American Lung Association, 14.1% of U.S. high-school students and 3.3% of middle schooler's currently vape as of 2021. Vaping is harmful to adolescent development as vape "juice" contains nicotine that impacts brain development and is highly addictive. Vape "juice" also contains chemicals that are linked to lung disease.
All students can fall into the pressure of experimenting with vaping as coping strategy or in social situations. Many vape devices are marketed to youth with the candy like flavors and youthful packaging.
At Mount Horeb Middle School, our restrooms contain vape sensors. If these sensors are triggered, the administrative team receives a notification and we then address the concern. While these incidents are few and far between, we are hoping that this intervention will lead to even fewer students experimenting with vaping.

Every School Day is Important
As we prepare to take time off from school from November 22nd-24th for the Thanksgiving break, we are grateful for everyone who has helped to restore a routine for showing up to school while supporting students and families. Daily routines are essential for reducing stress and creating a sense of security for students and adults.
Please take steps to keep your child healthy and send them to school unless they are truly sick. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers.
We thank:
- Our students and their families who do their best to show up to class every day even when it isn’t easy.
- Our staff who have gone above and beyond to help make school a welcoming learning environment where students can thrive.
- Our many, many healers and helpers - the support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need.
May these days off be restful and healing. We look forward to seeing you again when school resumes on November 27th.
