ORES Newsletter
We have officially completed the first three days of school. Thank you for your patience as we have worked through new procedures. Today was very smooth and everyone seems to have settled into a good routine. Our new staff members are getting settled in as well. Students are beginning to learn some of the new playground games and updated equipment. So far, they have been able to utilize the new kickball materials, four square, hula hoop station, jump rope station, new basketball court games and equipment, playground equipment, and of course the traditional run and play games they enjoy. Next week, we will have the tetherball courts ready as well as get the volleyball net up and ready for students. We also plan to teach them soccer next week. We will have all the new indoor recess activities set up so we can have more options for physical play during poor weather.
Morning routines look a different this year. We simply do not have enough supervision options in the gym and cafeteria and other needed supervision areas during breakfast time and we historically have had many issues in gym in the morning with student safety. This year, students will be walked from before school care by staff members from 7:40am until 8:00am where they will sit with their classmates at their class table. This is an option that provides much more supervision for our kids than previous procedures of having them sit in the gym. Teachers will then take students from the cafeteria to the classroom once breakfast is over.
Parents are welcome to walk students inside to check students in the before school care room starting at 7:00am or they can drop them off and let them walk in on their own. Early childhood students must have a parent sign them in and out each day. We have staff members on duty in the hallway entrance of before school care/early childhood wing. Please use the early childhood entrance between 7:00am and 7:40am each morning as this is where we have supervision established for elementary students during this time. If students enter the cafeteria entrance between 7:00am and 7:40am, they may not know where they are going and we will not know they are on campus for us to supervise.
Our first priority is evaluating what we do each day to provide a safe place for students. If a procedure isn't working well, we will adjust until we find a procedure that does work to keep our kids safe at school. Please feel free to reach out to me if you should ever have questions about processes or procedures. I am always happy to communicate with parents that reach out with questions.
Sincerely,
Sonia Wood
