Principal's Message
Students were also busy at work in their classrooms with activities like learning to type, triad reading, exploring solar energy, graphing, note-taking, and dissecting owl pellets!
We left the classroom to learn about the missions and enjoyed a lot of visitors to our school, including the rotary club donating dictionaries to our 3rd graders, and the Sonoma County Water Agency bringing some in-class education.
We also enjoyed a lot of special visitors during our Read Across America reading event. Some of our readers included Superintendent Dr. Robert Haley, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Julie Synyard, Rohnert Park Mayor Pam Stafford, and Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Commander Mike Bates.
Lastly, thanks to the generosity of our families, we were able to have our Annual Pie-in-the-Face assembly as a celebration of reaching our Paper Drive goal! Our Mountain Lion community is a strong one and we are always grateful for the support of our families! Our teachers always enjoy this celebration and the chance to "pie" each other and make our students laugh!
On a more somber note, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the school safety threats that have been in the news lately. As an elementary school, we are careful to work with students on an appropriate level to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and Monte Vista community. Our staff has been working together, along with district and county level staff, to determine best protocols and practices for school safety. Monte Vista is also working with Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety to make plans for our school and neighboring community. You may see some small changes around campus in the next couple of weeks and students will be practicing "lockdown" drills, along with our usual emergency drill practices. Staff is receiving on-going training in various safety measures and protocols as well. As we continue to put increased safety measures and protocols in place, you may see information come home to inform families of current practices in our schools.
As the year continues on, we look forward to more adventures in education with our whole Monte Vista community!
We Need You!
Volunteers are an extremely important part of any school community. We have two area where we need some volunteer help. One is in our Safe Routes to Schools program. This program needs a parent coordinator to help coordinate our Walk & Roll class tallies and winners. If you would be interested in helping us out or learning more, please contact the school office.
Our PTA is always in need of parent volunteers and board members. New board positions will be open soon! Please come join us at meetings, or visit this link, to find out more information about how you can help!
CRPUSD at Weill Hall
This is an exciting event held at Weill Hall (SSU) featuring CRPUSD band students. This concert features our Elementary Honor Band, the LJMS and TMS bands, and the Rancho Cotate High School Band for a wonderful night of young musicians and their music. Before the concert, you may enjoy an all-CRPUSD art show as well. We invite the community and our families to attend this event. Tickets are free and are available at the SSU Weill Hall website. There is also more information about the concert on the CRPUSD homepage.
