#AUSDCONNECT
ALPINE UNION THE DESTINATION SCHOOL DISTRICT OF EAST COUNTY!
WELCOME TO THE 2017-18 SCHOOL YEAR
As we embark on a new school year filled with hope, anticipation, and excitement, we want you to be connected to our schools. We know our students will enter our classrooms eager to learn, anxious to make new friends and filled with promise for the year ahead. The ingredients to ensuring your child's success is simple -- it starts and ends with a deep partnership with your child's teacher and school, clear communication and, of course, positive energy! Each of you is part of the family we call #TEAM AUSD and your partnership is essential to ensuring the success of your students and our District.
We look forward to the year ahead and to partnering with you to make your child have the best year possible. Please be on the look out for the this monthly newsletter.

NOMINATE AN AUSD EMPLOYEE FOR RECOGNITION
We are launching two new employee recognition programs this year: #TEAM AUSD AWARD and Everyday Heroes Recognition Program. The goal of these two programs is to recognize the valuable contributions of District employees to our students, schools and community. Nominations may be submitted by District staff, community members, students and parents. Individuals will able to submit a nomination form from our District website.
#Team AUSD Award
The #Team AUSD Award is designed to recognize an admirable team of employees, who together accomplish an exceptional task or project. The recognition is for a group of two or more classified and/or certificated individuals who have made a significant contribution to the benefit of AUSD, an individual, his or her work site, the community or other volunteer or service organization.
Everyday Heroes Employee Recognition Program
The AUSD “'Everyday Heroes" Employee Recognition Program honors classified employees who demonstrate excellence in work performance, school and community involvement, and leadership and commitment to our District, community and students.
LEAD TESTING AT ALL AUSD SCHOOLS
The safety and health of our students and staff across Alpine Unified are of the utmost importance for the District. With this in mind, we wanted to notify you that we have requested lead testing of our schools’ water supplies.
While not required, a recent action by the State Water Resources Control Board now allows for school districts to request free lead testing in schools. AUSD schools are served by Padre Dam. The water testing in AUSD will begin on September 13th. It is anticipated that the testing will take three days to complete.
Testing will occur before the school day begins to avoid any disruptions to learning. Up to five samples will be taken at each site. The sampling locations may include drinking fountains, cafeterias, and food preparation areas. The water samples will be analyzed and the school district will be notified of the results. All results will be posted online on the Alpine Union School District website.
SHADOW HILLS DUAL IMMERSION SCHOOL
Beginning this school year Shadow Hills Elementary School will move from a Dual Language program to a Dual Language School. Beginning this school year, all incoming English Only first grade students will have the option to choose AES or BOES. We are excited to see SHES continue to expand and grow.
