Rudd Scholar
Emma Elliott received tremendous news that she was selected as a Rudd Scholar. The Rudd Scholarship is a scholarship worth up to $80,000 to Emporia State, Fort Hays State, or Wichita State. Emma plans to attend FHSU next year. Congratulations, Emma!
LifeSmarts
Congratulations to the high school team for Rice County in the LifeSmarts consumer education contest for their first place finish at the state level competition. Good luck to them as they have qualified to represent the State of Kansas at the national competition in Cincinnati in April. LHS team members include Sam Steele, Deacon Showalter, and Will Miller. Other team members include Treyton Olander and Tobias Jesseph, both of Little River High School. The team is coached by Tina Steinert.
Five Wrestlers Compete at State
Congratulations to the three girls and two boys who qualified for and competed at the 1-2-3-4A State Wrestling Tournament this week. Kennedy Grizzle (9), Alexa Guzman (11), and Kyrsten Young (10) qualified for the girls and Easton Benavidez (9) and Isaac Fall (10) for the boys. Congrats to girls coach Joel Grizzle and boys coach Mark Schottler as well, for successful seasons.
LHS 4N6 on a Roll
The LHS Forensics Team members continue to place well and qualify for the State competition which will be held in May. Cherish Galliart (Extemporaneous Speaking) and Jarrett Smith and Mallorie Blank (Duet Acting) qualified for State at this week's competition.
Another Band Recognition
After a couple of years of tremendous results in marching band, concert (contest) band, and pep band, LHS Band Director Andrew Scherer was notified that one of his students was selected as the 6th chair on horn for the State Honor Band, which is similar to qualifying for the State competition in other sports/activities. Congratulations to LHS sophomore, Marianna Boese!
Lyons Hosts 500 Educators on Presidents Day
Five hundred teachers, administrators, counselors, social workers, and law enforcement officers participated in professional development activities at Lyons High School and Lyons Middle School earlier this week on Presidents Day. Tom Murray, Director of Innovation at Future Ready Schools, and Kansas native, Mark Johnson, a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Green Berets spoke to participants about communication and leadership.

National FFA Week
It must be National FFA Week! The LHS parking lot had its share of tractors (and a combine) on Tuesday as several of the Ag students drove them to school to start off National FFA Week. The LHS FFA chapter has other activities going on this week as well, including a daily treasure hunt. How do you hide a tractor? Ag teacher & FFA advisor, Kristin Dolechek has figured it out!
