Week of March 15, 2021
We hope that everyone has a safe and restful spring break. Jumping ahead to T4 (Term 4), our incredible counselors are currently proofing the adjustments they made to students' schedules and we will update you next week on when your child's schedule will be viewable in Skyward Family Access. It is possible that some students who did not request a learning model change may experience an adjustment to their schedule. It is no small task to make these adjustments, and we recognize the importance of keeping any kind of disruption limited to what truly has to happen to accommodate all students' scheduling needs. If your child will be F2F (Face to Face) for T4, you will receive a separate email as we get closer to March 29, 2021 with important information regarding F2F expectations. Have a wonderful week!

Standards Based Grading @ SMS
FBISD Grading Philosophy
The Board believes in developing students as owners of their learning. To promote student ownership and ensure academic integrity, grades communicate first to students and second to parents and other educational partners each student’s progress toward fulfilling the District’s Vision. To align the grading philosophy and curriculum supports, in 2018-2019 FBISD launched a Grading Pilot in grades 2 - 8. The initial pilot led to a refinement of Standards-Based Grading in PreK-1st grades. For PreK-1st grading guidelines, visit PreK-1st Grade Standards-Based Grading website.
What is the FBISD Grading Pilot?
Campuses engaged in the grading pilot are the first in FBISD to implement a Standards-Based Grading system in grades 2-8. This system changes the way that teachers give feedback related to student progress. Instead of using percentage grades, teachers will provide feedback on competencies that reflect grade-level standards. Students’ report cards clearly communicate academic progress.

Wellness Screener & Contact Tracing
During the week of Spring Break, contact tracing will continue, with team members working every day of the break to monitor and follow up with any cases entered into the wellness screeners. Additionally, community communication about cases will be paused over Spring Break, from Friday, March 13 at 5 p.m. until Sunday, March 21, at 5 p.m. School and building leaders will send one cumulative communication on March 21 after that time for all cases that were reported over Spring Break. Daily communication will resume over the following week (March 22-26).
Secondary Student Support Portal
In an effort to enhance our technology support, Fort Bend ISD has given secondary students (Grades 6 - 12) the ability to report application and hardware incidents using the FBISD Support Portal via 1Link. Students will select Student Application Support or Student Hardware Support to request assistance.
