A Note from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope that you and your families have enjoyed a beautiful summer and are looking forward to the start of a new school year! For those of you who are new to our school I’d like to welcome you on behalf of everyone at Rockdale Intermediate!
As I head into my first year as Principal of our amazing school, I can’t help but reflect on the memories and experiences of my last two years as the assistant principal. From the moment I walked through the doors, I knew I was somewhere special, and my intuition was right! Rockdale is a school with exceptional students who are eager to learn, talented educators who love your children, and parents and community members who are committed to our school and vision.
We have been very busy this summer preparing for the upcoming school year! Our teachers and staff members engaged in numerous professional development sessions to support our students and we are excited to have our kids back on campus! As such, we are poised for a successful year of high-quality and meaningful teaching and learning. In addition, our custodial and maintenance staff have been working tirelessly to create a clean, bright, and inviting environment for our staff and students to thrive in!
For additional information regarding our student handbook, bullying prevention/intervention policies, school calendar, and staff contact information, please visit our school website here.
Here are a few topics you need to be aware of:
- Second Grade: We are excited to welcome second grade to our campus this year. Our campus will now house second through fifth-grade students.
- Bell Schedule: 7:30 am to 3:00 pm (doors will open at 7:15am) The tardy bell will ring at 7:45 am.
- Breakfast/Lunch: All students receive free breakfast and lunch.
- Water Bottle: Please send a water bottle with your child. For now, we are leaving our water fountains on, but this could change as the CDC releases new guidelines. Water bottle filling stations are available on campus for student use.
- Masks: At this time, we are not mandating masks for our students or teachers. This will be left up to individuals choice. If you would like for your child to wear a mask, please send one with them and review your expectations with them at home; we cannot make them wear a mask.
- Student Drop Off: Our car lane in front of the school will be used for drop-off in the morning and students will enter through the first set of doors. Buses will drop off beside the school and those students will enter through the gym. Staff members will be out front to assist parents with drop-off.
- Dismissal: Car riders will load in the front three lanes in front of the building. We will load all three lanes and four cars back BEFORE we release the cars to move. This may take a few tries to perfect but once we know your cars and parents understand our process it will become a quick process. NO STUDENT WILL BE DISMISSED TO THE PARKING LOT. Please join the line of cars and we will move the line along as quickly as possible. Bus students will be dismissed from the gym.
- First Day of School: Wednesday, August 18th
- At this time, no visitors will be allowed in the building. This includes bringing lunch for your student during the day, eating with students, or delivering items. After the first six weeks, we will re-evaluate and possibly add a “Fast Food Fridays” policy in the district. This would be a time for you to drop something off at the front office for your child from a local restaurant if you choose. If you need to bring medication or leave a forgotten item for a student, please call the office - (512) 430-6200 - and someone will come out to meet you. There is no need to get out of your car.
We will prepare a weekly newsletter to keep you updated starting next week. Communication from school to home and from home to school is more important than ever. We will use email, phone calls, social media, and Talking Points to have open lines of communication. It's important that we have accurate phone numbers and email addresses to make this happen. Please be sure to update these if they change during the school year.
I can't wait to see everyone on Wednesday, and for a great year ahead! Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
